2023-24 Health NOTES (most current on top)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Many thanks to all for your good wishes and encouragement. They mean a lot to me. YOU mean a lot to me.
May 25. 2024
While partner was golfing I sneaked out to a favourite small garden centre to buy plants: tomato, hot pepper, yellow dwarf snapdragon. Came home with plenty of the first two and had figured out how to move them safely to the backyard when my partner returned home early and caught me. Happily, he didn't get angry as I had expected. Instead, he moved most of the plants for me. I harvested some rainwater from the past few days and was watering the new plants when the rain resumed. Tomorrow will get everything ready to plant--probably Tues for plants that go in ground.
Today I drove for first time since latest surgery--short trip alone to doctor and grocery store. Family doctor removed remaining 5 staples. Most of incision is healing nicely. One section not, but no sign of infection. Must return to doctor next Friday.
Family doctor confirmed my understanding of pathologist's report. Can celebrate that lymph nodes are negative for cancer.
Lesions on lower legs healing nicely. Right lower leg still a little swollen.
May 23, 2024
Partner took me to my favourite indoor farmers' market, but then rushed me, so I shopped at only 3 highest priority stalls. Highlights: Bought favourite muffins & scones, fresh asparagus and flat romano beans, and 9 tomato plants (half as many plants as I intended to buy).
Read pathologist's report online. Of everything removed from my pelvic region, some are borderline, some require more investigation, some negative for cancer. When I see my family doctor on Friday, I'll ask her to explain. And will await phone call from cancer centre to explain and discuss next steps. Appt with surgeon & team is not till late June.
Need affordable gardening help beginning next week. Efforts so far unsuccessful. Getting anxious. Finally put job posting on Facebook site for our community garden (where I had a plot 2 years ago). Now feeling hopeful.
May 21, 2024
Today family doctor removed most staples from my looong incision (from 3" above navel to bottom of belly) partially hidden by skin flaps. Five staples remain in section that is inflamed and hasn't healed. Will go back on Friday to have those removed.
Appetite & stomach capacity have returned big-time! Yesterday I was out of control--ate healthy meals & snacks & unhealthy snacks (especially candy) all day. Have now made candy & some other junk inaccessible.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
May 13, 2024
Spring arrived in my yard while I was in the hospital. Yellow leopard's bane is the showiest--it had just a few blossoms a week ago. Other perennials, bulbs, bushes, trees blooming--glorious! I hope to walk around the yard tomorrow, maybe with my 2-wheel walker. Now to figure out where/how I can find affordable help to plant annuals & veggies in a couple of weeks and to divide and repot some large houseplants after that.

May 12, 2024
Calendar for this week completely clear--no appointments of any kind! That hasn't happened for many months. Besides rehab exercises, more time for Jigidi?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
May 11, 2024
Have started wading through several hundred Jigidi notifications but am missing some. In a few days, if you think I've missed something important, tag me.
Will try to resist commenting as much as usual till I catch up. Bookmarking far more puzzles than I can ever do, but I still enjoy seeing them.
Most of leg edema gone, thanks partly to freeing of pelvic veins so they can do their job, thanks partly to many hours with powered leg massager. Edema-caused lesions healing. Have been warned some edema may return. My flabby body now weighs what my fit body weighed in high school. I hope I can stay at this weight and gain some muscle.
Partner has had terrible cold since last weekend. Managed to drive me to & from hospital, but in no condition to take care of me like he has since my knee surgery. Today doctor gave him an inhaler. I hope it helps.
Home from hospital & half unpacked. Still tired & weak (especially legs, that have had little exercise & still need rehab) & sleeping too much. Mild to moderate pain triggered by body position & movement. Only restrictions are lifting limit of 2 kg (4.4 lb) from floor or ground, carrying more than 10 lb, and must avoid sitting too long (what about Jigidi?).
May 9, 2024
Oncology pharmacist at hospital switched my blood thinner to oral. No more daily injections!
So far pathology report is that mass is neither benign nor cancer but in between. Awaiting more reports in coming weeks. Then planning for treatment can begin.
Surgery Tuesday May 7 removed ovaries, tubes, uterus, some lymph node—& mass the size of basketball! Now for remaining organs to learn to enjoy regained space and to sort themselves out so they can function better.
Surgery in 10 hours. Must be at hospital at 5:15 am. Finally packed. Now must follow instructions for eating, drinking, scrubbing with disinfectant sponge & showering, Won't get much sleep tonight. Partner has a bad cold so we're wearing masks around each other. He's the one who can usually wake up--I'm a sound sleeper who ignores alarms--so I hope we wake up in time tomorrow morning and he can be a safe driver.
Have done a lot of household tasks that require heavy lifting or bending. Haven't even started gathering what I need to pack for a hospital stay of 2-3 days. Haven't watered all my houseplants. Haven't made a list of what I need to do.
Two appts Monday: annual lung tests and doctor visit; chiropractor.
Stomach symptoms come & go. Must eat only small amounts at once. Have lost weight, and will lose a little more when surgeon removes mass, ovaries, tubes, probably uterus, maybe more. I wish she could scoop out some belly fat!
Have been very busy with lots of appointments, errands, phone calls, household tasks, to get ready for Tuesday's surgery.
Have open lesions above my right ankle. When I saw my family doctor on Tuesday and spoke to the surgeon's office on Wednesday, they were tiny drains for my edema. Surgery May 7 was still a go. Yesterday one spot expanded and became very inflamed. By today the entire area under the dressing became inflamed, like an allergic reaction. I don't want to tell the surgeon and delay surgery again.
Today turned compost in one bin and finished cleaning one flowerbed. It felt good!
Getting very anxious about physical restrictions during recovery time--10 lb. limit to lifting, and minimal bending over. I can't squat. So how will I reach the floor or ground? Partner is getting tired of being my caregiver and knows I'll again be a full-time project for a few weeks. He has refused to help with gardening. So I need to find a couple of kids to supervise and come up with money to pay them. And do as much as possible next two days, including figuring out what changes are needed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
April 15, 2024 Surgery postponed till May 7 because of blood clot (DVT). That turns some of my planning upside down.

Have completed pre-admission appointments. Trying to fit in as many other appointments as possible, including pain management at radiology clinic. But they don't all fit.

Stomach issues persist. Have lost weight--and muscle. Others say I'm skinny, but that's only from the waist up. Seeing internist on Wednesday.

Worked in yard a couple of hours during nice weather past 2 days. Mainly cleaned up beds. Hope I didn't disturb hibernating ladybugs. Now need to cut up material and get it into mulch and compost bins. But weather is turning cold and nasty tonight.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
April 5, 2024 Blood clot--deep vein thrombosis (DVT)--confirmed in right thigh. Have started daily self-injections of blood thinner.
Very supportive phone call appointment with nurse from Pelvic Floor Clinic re urinary incontinence and hope for great results from coming pelvic surgery when remaining organs regain space.
Surgery tentatively scheduled for April 23. Two pre-op appts scheduled for next week.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
April 1, 2024 Just now read report from last week's CT scan. Didn't understand everything. Looked up lots of terms.
Overall doesn't look too bad except that pelvic mass, which is definitely pushing on some organs. "a large complex solid and cystic mass seen in the pelvis measuring 17.5 x 16.6 x 20.6 cm in diameter." (6.9" x 6.5" x 8.1")

Worrisome: Evidence of possible clot in leg vein.

The most exciting for me: I have a hiatal hernia! That explains my stomach symptoms for the past few weeks. Now I want to contact the cancer clinic and ask if they can fix the hernia at the same time they're removing the mass.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
March 23, 2024 For the second time in my life, have lost my appetite--first for junk, now for almost everything. But still eating superfoods--protein, fruits & veggies, fibre--& taking my supplements. Happy to be losing a little weight already.
