Wow! Pictures are so evocative! This suddenly brought back a memory of being about 4 years old. My mother was a good woman, and I am sure she had a good reason for this--I just don't remember what it was. She made me go out and play. I didn't want to and threw a tantrum by the screen door which she had locked. After screaming for a while, I realized that I could see her standing by the door watching me. When I realized that she had not abandoned me, I went ahead and played. I think I learned to trust her judgment because that incident never occurred again.
