FINALLY! A rainy day, the first real rain in about two years here yesterday. Just a soft rain/drizzle, but it lasted from early morning till night and got everything wet! Don't have to wash my truck for at least 4 months now.

This is so true. I give it four stars like Kathleen Carroll, of the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS. TFS.

I can see where that would be attractive. Thanks Dave.

That is the talk that is circulating among the locals Judy. It is probably only a few who mess it up for the many though. They have been offered jobs throughout their trip in Mexico, and several thousands (maybe more, not sure) accepted and are starting to make Mexico their new home

Although Mexican pay scale is very low compared to the U.S., it also costs little to live here and the life style is much more comfortable than the stressed life of so many impoverished Americans.

It is the reason so many from the U.S. and Canada retire here.

So Dave you're saying they seem to be arrogant and not willing to take jobs or work visas in Mexico?
Did I understand that right?

Jumble

I know what you mean Dave, I hate to see that too, it's such a shame.

I think all the basics are covered, although for how long depends on the various government agencies reaction time. The new California governor was in Tijuana yesterday to visit the shelters and he pledged to help, but he won't take office until January. Hopefully many of them will take advantage of Mexico's offer of jobs and work visas, although local sentiment is learning towards their feeling on the right to be cared for, their apparent arrogance. We had a group of Haitians about a year ago that were quite different and took any work they could find to help out. When the government gave them a section of land in Tijuana, many moved there and built homes (mostly shacks built with anything they could find) -- home is where the heart is. Most have moved up from menial jobs to what they were qualified for. You can find them working all over the area, even in our biggest car wash in Rosarito. The factories that hired them found them to be far better employees than the Mexican workers -- come to work on time, excited to have a job, etc.

Sorry to go on so long, I hate seeing anyone in those situations!

That is so nice of you even to consider that Dave, how are they for supplies i.e. nappies, formula etc?

djp

We are actually in the desert here Irene, not much natural growth, except in the mountains (hills?) east of here. But we will have spring flowers!

Yes John, we soaked up much of the water! The migrant situation is terrible with most of them out in the open in a flooded field with "flooded" outhouses. The relief agencies and government are doing all they can, but funds are running out. Last night I considered driving up there to offer a small family to stay with me, but realized I am really to far away for their needs.

Dave, they said it would rain here last night... but Tucson still waiting. I think the storm had so much fun at the beach in Rosarito that it decided to stay a couple days.... or Rosarito was so dry it sucked every last drop of rain out of the clouds.... hmmmm…. I'm hoping that the "caravan" remembered to bring their umbrellas and their galoshes...

How lucky are you Dave, really two years. I bet the truth be known it was lovely and refreshing after the rain.!!! How does anything grow?
