never had a snowball fight...funny thing is never seen snow...well it did snow in Arizona but melted at soon as it hit the ground

PutterDutt

LOL, FB. "posh nosh bash" cracked me up! :o)

Fingerbreaker

PD: Canker sores putting a damper on a posh nosh bash is definitely not fair. Not good having to hold back on your roast peacock and truffles.

Fingerbreaker

Chilblains are the itch red blobs that appear on your fingers after you have been out having snowball fights with your mates. Not quite frostbite, but getting there.

Link_balloon1988

chaps ive vaguely heard but whats chilblaine

PutterDutt

I suspect they're still around, FB, but going by a different name. Much as I love most all fruits, I get canker sores on my tongue if I eat too much. Life is just NOT fair!

Fingerbreaker

PD: Ah yes, belly ache was common back in my youth. So was chaps and chilblains.
My grand children have no idea was these are.

PutterDutt

A valuable lesson learned the hard way! :o)

As a child I (and maybe half a dozen others!) scrumped rhubarb from the farmers field near home. It was under-ripe, green and sour and we all "suffered the consequences" during the night! I never scrumped anything else! Kind regards, Marj

racoonstar

@PutterDutt - this site says 'steal fruit', so it applies to any fruit.

https://www.lexico.com/definition/scrump

PutterDutt

Does scrumping only apply to apples??

Link_balloon1988

we used to scrump apples off the trees in Washington state when we were traveling

Great apples around middle of England! Kind regards, Marj

Fingerbreaker

PD: We young lads used to cycled up the lanes out into the country where the apple orchards were. How could we resist sampling an apple or two?

Scrumping is an ancient pursuit. Did you know that Eve was the first scrumper?

PutterDutt

Ah. Thanks, Bob. FB's probably in bed right now, so wondering won't keep me awake.

racoonstar

@PutterDutt - Google says scrumped means to steal directly from the tree, so they were probably very good, as they were much fresher than anything you'll see is a grocery store. :)

PutterDutt

I've never heard of those, Marina, but they sound good!

FB, you got me again. Is "scrumpted" sort of like the famous "five finger discount"?

Those are good, Bob, but the scent and taste of Macintosh makes me think of Fall, which is my favorite season.

Link_balloon1988

I heard there is a ton of apple varieties and it would take you 20yrs just to try them all

I did grocery shopping a couple of days ago, and bought four apples.
Two were Honeycrisp and two were Ambrosia.

MarinaNephele

The apples I like best are called "Firikia" and belong to a variety of miniature apples of the species Malus domestica Borkh. They are natives of Asia and Europe, where they had been growing for thousands of years, and were introduced to the other continents by European colonists. These apples are really small but have sweet taste and beautiful aroma.

Fingerbreaker

PD: The best apples were the ones we scrumped as youngsters.

PutterDutt

We've pretty well covered most of them! :o)

mauismom

cortland is my favorite, followed by honeycrisp

What a lovely memory, Eileen.

REALLY, Jerry? I want to do a happy dance!

racoonstar

My answer is: ALL OF THEM! :D

dustydog

Used to get a box of the red Delicious apples from my grandfather each year at Christmas... and each apple was wrapped in blue/purple tissue. Mmm-mm!

radiojerry

Ellen - we have tied on 3 different puzzles.

PutterDutt

Russet! Lovely puzzle, Thank you, kind regards, Marj

ParsonWayne

Do you have any pictures of Androids, too, PD?

PutterDutt

Mine is Macintosh!
