Thanks , Brightie! I'll get it all figured out eventually, even if I have to get a new computer (this one still isn't working right even with a new hard drive). Eventually I'll get back on track with making puzzles. I had tons of other things going on at the same time, which is why I haven't been on much. I will probably make a puzzle to tell THAT story. Oh, gosh Teresa. It gets worse, instead of better!! I don't think I have any other ideas for a free layer based program, other than PDN or GIMP. So I just googled "free layer based editing programs", and found this - which might have some options for you:

"Photo Pos Pro" could be worth taking a look at.....

so glad to see you - when we installed windows 10 it gave us so many problems and also would not let me download my pictures and make them into puzzle sand so many other problems too- so we had it uninstalled and now it looks like windows 7 is going to stop and we will have to get windows 10 again - ayayayayayaaiii good luck my friend and i pray your problems will get resolved ♥♥♥ this was lovely ☺☺

Hi, Kirsten! I love all your suggestions. Don't ever hold back. I don't have a tablet, but I might consider getting one. There is still something corrupted on my computer and it is not finishing up with the Windows updater properly (which may be why PDN won't install), so that might motivate me to get a new something, maybe a tablet. Fortunately, I can still use Kaleider to make my patterns. I just need an easy-to-see program to do layers like PS did. I used GIMP for this one, and I don't like it so far - hard on the eyes. And of course, having to learn it all from scratch isn't much fun, unless I had more time. Poor me. Haha. (✬‿✬) - Teresa

Oh Teresa! I feel your pain! I hope that you find a resolution soon. You know that I can't help myself, in trying to help out. So apart from all my suggestions on the other puzzles that we were talking about this, I have one more! If you have a tablet, you might find that some of your fave effects/pattern makers come as free apps! And you could possibly use your tablet to make your patterns, and your computer to assemble them into puzzles. I'm pretty sure that Jill (jill4art/art4sight) uses an app on a tablet to make her patterns - and they look just like kaleider patterns! (❛ᴗ❛)

Oh, Teresa, so sorry to hear about your computer problems. That sucks! Great that you got a new drive. Thank you for this beautifully colored puzzle and I have 225 bookmarked for tomorrow.... :)
