Alternative comment: the dog's ears, especially in some breeds, like the spaniel shown, are exceptionally long-haired. Often it's very difficult to comb or brush the knots out of a dog's ears: If they're left for a while without being de-knotted (if that's a word) the dog is afraid of the pain associated with the "de-knotting" and makes the work almost too difficult for both the groomer and the dog. Bringing in a groomer is usually essential unless you want to have the dog anaesthetized (that's not cheap) and having your veterinarian's staff do the job.
If you decide not to groom you're in for an expensive anesthetic and putting the dog through a sometimes-dangerous procedure, especially for older animals.

What beautiful highlights! The mobile dog wash has been parked in front of my neighbor's for almost 4 hours today. Maybe she tangled with a skunk??

He's so cute, Thank you.
