In Today's Daily Jigsaw Puzzle, we visit Christiansfeld in southern Denmark. Christiansfeld was founded in 1773 as a planned settlement for the Moravian Brethren (Herrnhuters) under the patronage of King Christian VII.

The Moravians were known for their strong work ethic, craftsmanship, and sense of community, and they built the town with a focus on order and simplicity.

The town's layout features straight streets, uniform yellow-brick houses, and a central church square that served as the heart of the community.

Life in Christiansfeld was deeply communal. The Moravian Brethren lived modestly, prioritizing cooperation over individual wealth. They established workshops producing fine carpentry, pottery, and tiles, which were traded widely. The town's honningkager (honey cakes) became a specialty and remains a famous local treat.

Christiansfeld was affected by the Schleswig Wars, coming under German rule in 1864 before rejoining Denmark in 1920. Despite political changes, the town retained its distinct character and traditions. Today, it is one of Europe's best-preserved Moravian settlements and was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015 ♥

Interesting about their town retained its distinct character and traditions for all those years, for so many years. The streets and walkways with trees are a nice touch. Thanks for more about Denmark.
