World's largest cat painting - 6 x 8.5 ft. Commissioned by San Francisco philanthropist, Kate Birdsall Johnson in 1891. Artist is Carl Kahler. Shows 42 of Ms. Johnson's cats. Her husband named the painting. Painting was shown at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. This is one of my favorite paintings. I have a (smaller) print of it hanging in my living room.

I see 5 shorthairs in here. I'd guess that these are just a jumble of breeds and mixes, and all were loved.

Since these are all Persian breed cats, I am assuming she bred them. This was back when the Persian still had a pretty face. (And I can agree with your "touch" observation.)

If these are your Mrs. Birdsall's lovers, than means her husband was not affectionate enough ! Cats love touch and so do women. Hence the bond. I was on a date recently where the gentleman while helping to my seat at a restaurant touched my elbow. All I can say is if my first husband had touched me the way he did, I would have NEVER left him. So when people calll us "crazy cat ladies". Indeed, we are. More power to us.
but only for the right reasons.
