Lyricist

@Bluestockings that's my time too - sitting in the backseat of my parents' gray Plymouth! can we stop for ice cream? and the answer was always yes.

Bluestockings

@Lyricist "made me remember how fantastic radio stations were when i was growing up - every kind of music mixed together!" Exactly! I am familiar with so many artists and songs now because when I was in elementary through high school, I listened to the radio for hours and hours. In Houston in the 50s and 60s, local stations played country, blues, doo-wop, Cajun, and more, along with what the kids were dancing to on American Bandstand. It was great!

OldManMontgomery

I remember "El Paso" from 1959. I was rather taken with it. Years later - in my 40s or 50s - I heard "El Paso City"; which may not appeal to everyone, but was also a hit with me. And "Big Iron", about how a man makes a living.

I have been through El Paso once traveling Interstate 10.
I did not stop in a cantina owned by a women named Rose.
I did not dance with a Mexican girl.
I didn't kill anyone.

iceng

Blue, it isn't the answer but rather the pleasures of the discoveries in the pursuit..
Even if you wait for evening :-))

Lyricist

hearing it in France in French - awesome!!! i listened to Johnny Cash's version just after Marty's tonight and i can't tell which one i like best.

i freaking love these puzzles because they lead me to music and i'm learning a lot.

iceng

"Les cavalers de ciell" Terribly spelled French for
The riders in the sky heard by me 68 years ago in France..
Now, I have over eight other wonderful Versions of 'Ghost Riders in the Sky' :-))

iceng

Thanks for that Neville, It is nice to help me demonstrate that I use my personal collection of real cover art.. Old as it may be. :-))

iceng

The story, the rhythm of words and the actual words are exquisite :-))

Lyricist

i never guessed his name but i recognize it now that we have the answer. and i've now played this song seven times over tonight - it's addicting! and i saw that he also did Ghost Riders in the Sky. made me remember how fantastic radio stations were when i was growing up - every kind of music mixed together!

Bluestockings

Alex, do you want us to have to work for it, or do you just want to give us the answer? :-)

iceng

He was one of the most popular and successful gun fighter ballad and trail singers for nearly four-decades and a famous song "El Paso" :-))
