Eleanor Antin (1935-) is an American photographer, author, and artist. Originally from New York, USA, she is currently based in Southern California where she is a professor Emeritus at the University of California, San Diego. Antin is represented by Ronald Feldman Fine Art and continues to exhibit internationally. - adapted from wikipedia.org

Here is a very different and decidedly modern version of the Judgment of Paris. Eleanor Antin portrays the myth through photography.

Here Hera, goddess of marrige, is shown as a disinterested, dowdy, plump, 1950's homemaker trying (somewhat) to maintain her allure with her red high heels.

The goddess of war, Athena, is shown as an athletic warrior with bandolier and what appears to be an AR-15 rifle (not a military-grade weapon, but cosmetically similar).

Aphrodite is shown as a timelessly refined and sexually confident woman.

Paris' rugged masculinity is displayed by the cowboy hat and his chiseled physique. Paris's companion is shown dressed in animal skins, but is posed as Rodin's the Thinker. Reminding us that thoughtful contemplation is not at all incompatible with a primitive existence.

Poor Helen of Troy is seated behind Paris and does not appear to be very happy with her situation as the "bribe" offered to Paris by Aphrodite. Helen is about to become the bride of Paris as he awards the golden apple to Aphrodite.

Antin has also created a virtually identical photograph entitled "Judgment of Paris (after Rubens) - Dark Helen" with the only significant difference being Helen's hair color, brunette.

A seemingly humorous take on and old classic that offers commentary
on how sadly little has changed over the centuries. Liked the inclusion
of Helen of Troy- the ultimate trophy wife.
