I was in Escondido Sept. 25 for my moms 96 birthday . 2023 Hope we meet some day
my sister and I both went to EHS, after you.

treker

And to you, I wish a Great year as well!

kayboblee

Will do and Happy New Year! ;-))

treker

It was indeed a "number crunching" challenge as I neared the conclusion to this challenge I set for myself.
The next next challenge will hopefully come in a little over a year from now. Stay tuned! ;-)

kayboblee

You must have put some thought into it to get that exact number situation. Smart move--lol--treker. ;-))

Ms_Maddy

Wow

RobMuijt

Yeahhhh!!!!! Spectacular!

treker

Bubble- Yes, I've got more but,...it'll be a while 'til the 200,000 number is reached. (The 100K took 7 years.) ;-)

Bubble

Have just found this Fred, so guess you're up by quite a few more now!! Roll on to 200,000 - way to go! :-)))

PutterDutt

:o)

treker

PutterDutt

That's a good combination for North American big game. I remember when the .30-'06 was the standard bear rifle, and then the whopping .300 Magnum took its place. I also remember stories of guys caught short by a grizzly and emptying their .30-30 into it and not even slowing it down. I killed a 280 pound wild boar with a 10mm pistol in about 1990, firing hollow points. Still have the tusks on a bookshelf. I shot him three times, all fatal shots, but he never flinched or changed direction or speeded up or slowed down. No reaction at all. I thought I must have missed all three times (impossible!) until, as I squeezed off the fourth shot he suddenly lurched to the right, bounced off a tree and fell stone dead on his left side. Three fully expanded hollow points through the heart and lungs, and he never felt them! Boars are tough!

treker

Not puny in my world! I've never owned/fired a rifle larger than my 7mm mag. When hunting, I also carried my Ruger SS .44 mag. (great insurance!) ;-)

patsquire

To our amazement, and this was in the early 1990s, it was the smallest caliber on the hunt, along with its sister caliber a .338 Win. Mag. Everybody else had .375s, .416s and the guides had .458 Win Mags! It seems bear hunting is so expensive these days nobody wants to take a chance on an animal getting away. Can you imaging, a .340 and a .338 being called "kinda puny!?!"

treker

No heavy seas,... smooth sailing the entire time. Check my puzzles for a puzzle created for your enjoyment.
And,...that .340 Mag. would certainly have been very suitable and my choice for a big bear. ;-)

patsquire

Wow, sounds like heaven! And no heavy seas in the bargain, I bet. To me the bears and the seaplane ride sound the most interesting. What kind of plane was it?

I have a bear rifle. It's a Weatherby in .340 Weatherby Magnum. It's been bear hunting in Alaska, but I didn't get to go with it. When I was VP (Legal) at Colt our VP (Sales) got taken up there by our west coast rep group along with his counterparts from other companies they represented. He didn't own anything suitable for North America's most dangerous game, so he asked me if I had something. I took him to the range, got him used to the rifle, etc. and he took it up there. They stayed on a luxurious boat/yacht/ship of some kind and hunted every day for a week. It was an island famous for its high number of bears but they never saw anything all week. My rifle was returned to me unfired.

Oh! And it was when we had just introduced Colt's first and only .44 Magnum, the Anaconda, so he took that along to try for a bear if they could get close enough. "The first Kodiak bear taken with a Colt .44 Magnum Anaconda by Colt Vice President Jan Mladek!" It would have made great headlines, but of course that didn't happen either.

I've only seen Alaska once, at night in February, 1969 when my C-141 medevac plane from Japan stopped there for fuel en route to New Jersey. I got out of the plane and walked around for a few minutes just so I could say I've been in Alaska!

treker

And what a time we had!! Seven days to cruise the inside passage from Alaska to Vancouver, BC with stops at 6 ports of call. Activities during the stops included glacier views, hiking, a 3 hour "zip line" experience through a cedar forest, Grizzly bears with cubs, remarkable whale viewing, tram ride, museums, totems, sea plane flight and INCREDIBLE food aboard our Celebrity Cruise Line ship, Millenia.

patsquire

A cruise? A CRUISE!?! A C R U I S E ???!!!??? Not much TREKKING involved in a cruise! ☺

treker

laurajane- Been on a cruise, just arrived home, Thanks for your comment!

laurajane

I just saw this huge milestone, trekker...congratulations!

treker

EB and PS- I was out of town yesterday and "missed" all the comments from you two. Way to get 'er done Pat! Thanks for the kudos Elvis,...it was quite a journey. ;-)

ElvisBanana

trekerr, this is such a mind-boggling accomplishment! 100K puzzles and 2 million pieces is absolutely incredible, and I offer my sincere congratulations!

treker

Thanks for solving dbnc2.
(A "milestone" for me! ;-) )

dbnc2

i just found that is a puzzle and i've been doing this for years

treker

LOL Pat!!

patsquire

That's the exact question in my mind too, Fred!

treker

Hi Kalizio!
The numbers OR the "war stories"? ;-))

Amazing

PutterDutt

You two ought to write books about your adventures!

patsquire

Thank you, Fred. And thank you for your service, too. I've taught my daughters two sayings from the Army. "Don't forget nuthin." from Rangers (it was the motto of Rogers Rangers during the French and Indian War). And, "The map is NOT the terrain."
Pat

treker

My favorite credo comes to mind when recalling old times. It is: "All it takes is EVERYTHING!!" I know you understand that to be true given the training/experiences you endured while in service to our country. And, it goes without saying, ... THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!! Fabulous effort!
Fred

patsquire

Oh man, airborne stories! Endless and mostly hilarious, even when they were dangerous. You're right, I'm 71 but I didn't realize 1968 was 50 YEARS AGO! Thanks for pointing that out for me! ☺

Fortunately for me, it wasn't my brigade that went to Vietnam overnight. Two brigades stayed stateside. In the spring we stopped our regular training and started riot control training. The Army had built full size urban training mockups (on unpaved ground) right there on Bragg, and we were instructed by experts. We learned all kinds of tactics including escalation of force if need be.

And what do you know, a month or so later there were race riots all over America, including Washington, DC. The government was SO SURPRISED! Race riots? Who would have guessed? Actually they DIDN'T guess, they knew those riots were coming. That's when I did deploy overnight, down to Pope, C-130s to Andrews AFB (when they went to Vietnam they used C-141s) and into the city to quell the rioting and restore order. And boy, it worked too! Wherever the 82nd Airborne went the citizens quieted right down!!!

It was at the end of that summer that I got orders for Ranger School and 'Nam. I volunteered for everything, and the Army gave me everything I volunteered for. I enlisted for Infantry, then OCS, airborne, Ranger and Vietnam. The only thing I didn't get was an airborne unit in 'Nam. I got the 1st Infantry Division which wasn't a bad runner-up.

treker

I did some quick math. That's 50 years ago for your "experience", a little longer for mine. Yikes! I'm 76, you must be close to that? Life be gud!
My DR "Expeditionary" experience is very similar to yours. The call out, Pope AFB, loading ammo in our planes, donning parachutes, and flying forever to DR. We didn't get the jump as the airfield in Santo Domingo had been secured by earlier assault. DAMN!! My worst memory of living in the jungle were the land crabs. BIG suckers! My best memory of the "affair"is this. One of my platoon members had one crawl into his helmet (while placed on the ground in his pup tent) and I heard a blood curdling scream from 10 feet away when, after donning the helmet, the crab moved it's legs!! (It had crawled between the helmet webbing and the liner) The guys face was as white as a sheet!! The helmet removed, the poor crab suffered at least 30 stabs with a bayonet!!!. The liner had to be replaced,... he had cut it to shreds!!!!!!! LOL I can still envision that now as if it had happened yesterday.
"Life's what happens when you're makin' other plans!" ;-)

patsquire

Damn straight! All The Way!!! I was there most of '68 and we heard MANY stories of the Dom Rep from guys who were there. Then one night we got called in to an alert. In the morning instead of going back to regular duty, we stayed locked into our Co. HQ/barracks building. Before long there was a steady line of vehicles coming down the back division street toward the entrance to Pope AFB. I mean everything! Troops, trucks, trailers, water buffalos and even the towed 105s! One whole brigade got on the planes at Pope and never got off until they were in Vietnam!

We say the 82nd can go anywhere in the world overnight. That night we proved it!

treker

Thank You!! Believe me when I say the FIRST person I thought of after reaching the "numbers" was YOU!! My only thought was to leave a comment on one of your puzzles and sooner or later , you'd find it. YAY!!
I see by your bio we're Airborne brothers! I served in the 82nd from 1962-1965. "Lived"in the jungle in the Dominican Republic. AIRBORNE,...ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;-)

patsquire

HEY-HEY! YOU DID IT!!! ♫ ♩♬ C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S ! ! ! ! ! ! ♫ ♪ ♫

I'm sorry I missed it at the time, but WELL DONE!

treker

Suzy and Maria "Thank You's" for the birthday wishes! It was a great day. Worked in the yard for hours. Yippee!

eaglefeather

Happy Birthday jigidi friend! have a wonderful day!

pumpkinhead

Happy Birthday, young man!!! Enjoy your day! :)

treker

Hi Suzy!!!! Good to see your comment. I was NOT good at corresponding while "workin" the numbers the last few months. IT'S OVER and I can get back to solving anything I desire without having to keep on the straight and narrow "PLAN" I had to adhere to. It WAS a challenge,... especially the last 100 puzzles. ;-))

pumpkinhead

YOU DID IT!!! CONGRATULATIONS, TREKER!!!
Can't even begin to imagine the numbers you crunched to pull this off, and I missed the Big Day.... but YEAH for YOU!!!!

treker

I have a small note pad that I kept track of the "numbers" as I completed daily puzzles. This came to fruition after 5 months from the time I realized I could "make it happen." A fun challenge to be sure.
Thanks for your comments Gladstone. Have a GREAT day!

Gladstone

Another WOW from me, I just checked mine and a
little over one-half of your achievements.
To have all those zeros at the same time is in my mind
very astounding.
CONGRATS!!!

treker

Thanks 6toedcats!
I got a little nervous near the end making sure that the numbers were gonna total correctly. ;-)

6toedcats

Congrats on some impressive statistics! And how interesting to have all those zeros...

treker

Hi ef! Ya know,...this is bound to occur if'n you want it to.
(Sage advice from an O.F.) ;-)

eaglefeather

Amazing treker! Congratulations!

treker

pkin I wholeheartedly AGREE!

pkin38

Congrats Treker ... The best past time ever ... :-)))

treker

Thanks everyone for your comments. It's fun "hearing" from you all from locations around the globe. (I'm not even close to Robbo's numbers, he's waaay out there! )
;-)

puzzeljac

Wow, that's great. ♥ Congratulations. ♥♥♥

unicorn3

Wow, that's amazing. I doubt I could even come close to the pieces, but I could probably match the puzzles one day. This lap top does not like puzzles that have too many pieces, the screen is too small, but I try!! Congratulations treker, I'm honestly very impressed..............Wendy

Robbos

Congratulations from down under, treker, keep up the with a great pastime☺☺

PutterDutt

Congratulations, treker! Quite an achievement!
