A cowl, I just finished crocheting. I think I'm going to make it longer though, so not finished after all.

jals

It depended. If we were playing a game of badminton it was fun, but running, or playing basketball etc.. was not fun

jals

Donna,
30 minutes a day is great! And I'm like you, I tell myself to just keep moving. Of course sometimes my self argues back.

jals

I will, Lynn!
I do like to be able to read though as a fourth mile will pass before I've noticed. Otherwise, I watch the progress and it seems sooooo slow. lol

esterolynn

Judy, check out the Graceland music. It REALLY helps with the treadmill. (-: I don't think I could walk like that today (asthma/breathing problems), but surprised myself back then.

jals

I use it on my back before I go to sleep, Donna, but then I turn it off and put it on the floor before I go to sleep. I'm glad it helps you.

jals

Wow Lynn! 3 miles in 40 minutes is really good!!

esterolynn

Hi Donna, A number of years ago I joined a gym and hired a personal trainer for a year. I went three days a week faithfully. In an exceptionally short amount of time after I started I was able to do much, much more than when I began. So, I do know that things do progress very fast. Judy, I was doing 3 miles in 40 minutes on the treadmill no problem. I listened to Paul Simon's Graceland album side two first. The songs started slow, progressed to much faster and, then slow again for warm-up, cardio and cool-down. Check it out. My problems are just old age and lack of exercise and arthritis. I wish I did like swimming, but I hate it. )-:

jals

Donna,
Sounds like you are doing much better with your knee. I know cycling is supposed to help your knees as it builds up the muscles around the knee. I'm having a lot of pain right now with bursitis in my left hip. I wish it would go away.

jals

Lynn,
I hope you find something to help you. I am trying to increase my endurance also. I can now do one mile pretty easily on the treadmill. I'm going to give it another week and then increase my distance. When we go to Alaska this summer, I want to be able to do some walking.

esterolynn

Hi Donna, I think that for only having the Cubii for a couple of weeks your report that you believe it is helping is really great. If you notice your endurance has gotten better and your pain has gotten better, too, is really great!! And, I wish your hubby all the best with his knees. I need to strengthen my legs and increase my endurance. I have trouble breathing when I exercise (walk) and want to be able get around better!! And, add more exercise to my life. So, Thanks A Bunch, for your answer and report!! I'll be looking into the Cubii for sure!! Hugs, Lynn

esterolynn

Hi Judy and Donna!! I am butting in here to ask you, Donna, about the Cubii. I see it advertised on TV and it looks like something that might be useful and therapeutic for me. Do you find it's something you use regularly? Can you read or knit while using it? Has it strengthened your legs that you can tell and helped you walk better? Do you think it is worth the money?

(-: Lynn

jals

Oh my Donna. I would be a little disappointed to see that they had taken out everything I had planted. Do you have a link to the house online so I could see it. I would be interested in seeing what it looks like. They really got hit hard with deaths and illness, didn't they? My brother's friend and roommate (same person) just got dx with breast cancer. We've put her on all our prayer chains. She was so good to take care of my brother when he had his prostate cancer. I hope he can help her out with hers.
I hold on with one hand and hold the book in the other hand on the treadmill. The book rack is too far away for me to see the words.
I'm sorry to hear about your eyes. Did the surgery take care of the problem?

jals

Nice to know Rebecca! Thanks!

That sounds good, Donna! My sister has some sort of stationery bike that is very small that she uses. Cycling will help your knees! I usually read when I'm on the treadmill otherwise I would be soooo bored.

RebeccaB

Excuse me butting in ladies - I have plantar fasciitis, and when it's bad, Crocs are bearable - you can feel them "give" when you step on them, feeling "cushy". Much better than my usually comfortable and supportive jogging shoes. They've gotten me through some tough days.

jals

I know Donna. I had surgery on my foot about 5 or 6 years ago and it did help as I could hardly stand at all. Now I can walk a mile and I'm hoping to increase that to 2.

jals

Julie,
We have found that with our middle son. The more we gave him the more he treated us poorly. Now that we've stopped helping him all the time, he seems to respect us more.

Donna,
That doesn't gross me out at all and I can even eat while I'm watching. Still haven't watched the foot show but have seen previews. I have arthritis in my feet so that does hurt badly at times. Right now I need to find some new shoes. I wear custom made orthotics in my tennis shoes. I had plantar fasciitis in my right foot and had surgery on it. Then years later I had to have another surgery on the same foot. When your feet hurt, you don't want to be on them at all.

julie88

You're right Judy. Also, strangely enough, if you allow youself to be used, people lose respect ! Far from being grateful, you get taken for granted.
I am completely in the dark on private puzzles. ?
Right now I'm cooling off from doing yard work. I'll need a shower too. Sweaty. Yuk. julie

jals

I think I've seen that one, nanab.

Julie,
I will post a private puzzle for you to see my hair. I also got quite a bit cut off.
We are about 90 miles from our son and grandson. However, I would like to live there for the shopping, dining, and theater productions. I think a person just has to say no and not let themselves be taken advantage of. I feel my husband and I are strong enough to do that, but my sister is not.

julie88

Hi Judy,
We just visited Daughter, Gkids, and Ggkids. They all live in Daytona Beach. We're about a hundred miles south in Palm Bay [Fl]. On the way home we were talking about moving closer. Well, I just read all your comments and they're making me think.
About your hair. You have to do whatever you feel comfortable with, it's your hair. My daughter is about your age and she is thinking about letting her hair go gray. Your face is so unlined, I bet darker hair makes you look younger. How about a picture of the new you ? Julie.

nanab

One of the saddest Dr. PP that I watched was one about a mother with 2 young children, not only was Mom being stared at and treated rudely, her children were being bullied at school. : (

jals

nanab,
I find myself crying when the people on Dr. PP start talking about how they were ridiculed or ostracized and how ugly they feel. It breaks my heart. I am so glad she can help them. I'll see if I got any recorded and watch one tomorrow if I get a chance.

nanab

jals,
The foot doctor show is sometimes difficult to watch but when those poor people that have suffered for years finally get their problems fixed it's an amazing transformation. It's so sad that they waited so long to get help, or they tried to get help from other doctors who didn't do the right thing.

jals

I haven't seen the foot one yet, I think I have recorded it. Hubby is not happy with all the shows I've recorded lately as they interfere with his televison watching. I've made it through all the old ones of Dr. P.P. so I could change the timer to just record her new ones. That should help.

pasta

Donna, it just thundered here. Darn I really don't want snow!!!. :)

pasta

I love that show, and the foot one. :)

nanab

jals
I watch that too! Have you seen the new foot doctor show?

jals

Oh Donna,
70's sound so nice!!!
We have sun today so that is making me happy. Yesterday was gloomy.
Are you doing any knitting right now?
I've been crocheting hats.
And watching Dr. Pimple Popper. lol

jals

Thanks Julie! I went back to coloring my hair dark again. I got very tired of the gray and feeling old and washed out. Good to hear from you! What have you been up to, lately.

julie88

Nice to see your smiling face, Judy. Julie.

jals

It's been cold, and dreary all day today. I've been busy so it hasn't bothered me a lot, but now I'm sitting down and looking out the window and thinking, "Yuck." lol A little warmer than yesterday, 32° right now.

jals

Yes, my sis and her husband pay for a lot of the kids stuff too She needs to tell them no, but when there's grandkids involved, it's hard to do that.

jals

And yes, Judy, next time we'll have snacks! :-)
Sweet dreams!

jals

Thanks for the advice, Donna. I think it is good advice. :-))
Hindsight is always 20/20. I'm sure if we lived closer we would be babysitting more, which I wouldn't mind, but I have seen my sister and husband and they get their grandkids all the time. 5:30 in the morning, they'll drop them off so she has to be up and ready to take care of them and then drop them off at school, pick them up from school, feed them a snack, take them to dance, etc... I think they get taken advantage of too, but they will never say no. It would be fun to live next door to my sister, but it also might be problems. idk... I think I like my house too much to move to something that small.

Judy,
72 acres is a lot of land. Do you farm part of it? Or is it forest? Your dad was smart to put that money into land. Nice you have more family living there too.

God Bless you O&A. I understand what you are saying. We live in Alabama (north of Birmingham) on 72 acres. My dad bought the property from the money he got from fighting in the Korean War. My husband and I moved here a yr after marriage 44 yrs ago. God willing we won't be moving. My son and his family, my daughter and her family and my brother live on the property.
My thrift stores days have dwindled down. We do have some good ones around. If they sold material I would probably go more. I don't need any more fabric.
I hope your brother is happy and has learned that little word NO.
Hopefully when I am moved again it will be to go to the Happy Hunting Ground as my uncle used to say!
jals thanks for getting us all together today! Next time we'll have to bring snacks!
Love y'all
judy

jals

Nanab,
That is what I'm afraid of. Moving and then wishing I hadn't.

jals

I don't have good luck with thrift stores, either, Donna, but my husband does. I don't have the patience to go frequently and look through. He's gotten brand new jackets with the tags still on, and shirts that are like brand new. Not me.

nanab

jals,
That's what I moved from, a 3 bedroom, 2 bath with full basement and attic storage.
I now live in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath with no basement or attic storage. It's plenty of room for the 2 of us, but I do miss having more closet space and kitchen cabinets.
Good idea about the thrift stores, maybe I could find a smaller model that I could easily store away in my closet when not in use. Thanks.

jals

I have a classmate/friend that lives in Birmingham. I am so sorry to hear about these tornadoes and the fatalities. So sad.
I'm thinking I may just take a nap. Got up too early this morning.

Nanab,
The thrift stores or maybe estate sales, would be a good place to look for them. Also check dealers to see if they have an older model someone traded in. My sister lives in a small townhouse, the unit on the other side of them is for sale now, but I don't think it has enough room in it. We have 3 bedrooms now with a full basement of which 1/2 is a finished man cave. They don't have a basement and only 2 bedrooms. Don't know where all my craft stuff would go.

I'm in Alabama, north of Birmingham. We're out of danger from tornadoes now. Did have 3 deaths in Alabama & 7 total nation wide.
Nanab I have seen sewing machines at thrift stores that looked like good deals. I hope you are able to get another one.
Cover up and keep warm Judy. Too cold for me at 2 degrees!
judy

nanab

You're welcome, I hope you can find what you're looking for.
I still regret giving away my sewing machine and patterns when we downsized, among other things, but can't change that now. : )

jals

Thanks nanab,
I'll check it out!

nanab

Hi jals,
I had one of those activity book patterns, you can find free patterns here:

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/42713896436090164/

jals

Fun things to sew! I can't manage cross stitching while I'm moving. lol I'm working on a Christmas stocking for one of my grandsons and it's on 36ct fabric. I have to wear special glasses the eye dr had made for me so I can see to stitch.
Pink would be fun! I kind of like the turquoise and magenta too. But I wouldn't ever color mine like that. At least not now. Maybe when I'm 80. ha ha

Making baby things is fun. I haven't done it, though. When our grandson was born, our dtr in law's mom made a bunch of burp pads and a couple blankets for him. I knit a blanket for him, but nothhing else since he already had enough. I would like to make a quiet activity book for him but don't want to pay for a pattern.. lol You know the kind where they have a lace up page, a zipper page, snaps, etc...
I would love to see photos of your creations, including the hanging you're working on now.
No tornadoes here. We're in Nebraska. Where are you?
Currently our weather is 2° Real feel: -16° Chance of snow tomorrow.
I need to make a few cards today and get a little cleaning done. Have a good day!

Judy

That is too funny ! Today of all days you changed your hair color! Sometimes I'm tempted to dye mine Pink! Currently I'm working on a wall hanging. It has some trees that have poke a dot round tops. I am stuck without knowing exactly what I want above the trees. It will come to me. My friend's daughter had twins and I sewed a lot of blankets and easy cute burp pads for them. Plus my niece had a baby in Nov. and I enjoyed more sewing for baby. I used to cross stitch when we would drive in motorhome. It does make the miles fly by. We are expecting bad weather tomorrow. Hope you are not in the tornado line. Take care
judy

jals

Ohhh Judy,
Thanks so much for the nice message!
I have a confession to make, I just had my hair colored dark again today. I kept it white for about 2 years but felt really washed out all the time because I am so pale. I love crocheting because I can do it while I watch t.v. with my husband. Or if we're in the car going someplace, it's good to keep myself busy with. Makes the miles fly by. How nice you have your granddaughters with you.
What kinds of sewing do you do besides quilting?
Thanks for the hugs, Sending some back
(((((Judy))))))
Hope you have a nice evening! ❤️

Hi jals! Just saw this puzzle. I love your scarf! And you are just gorgeous! My hair is snow white too. It has been for a long while. When I was young it was jet black. I never used to understand why people would compliment me on my hair. I think the white must remind folks of loved ones they remember. So if that's it I 'll just except it. I haven't done any crocheting in a long time. Love to sew and do quilting now. When I moved away to Atlanta to go to college (100 yrs ago) my Mom crocheted me a purple hat with a brim that I loved so much. I don't know what happened to it but I think of it every winter and wish I had it!
My 6 and 8 yr old granddaughter's just walked in and saw your picture and said "Is that you Memaw?" I told them no but it is Judy!
Take care and Big Hugs!
judy

jals

Thank you Nicky!
You are so sweet!
My oldest sister's hair is so thin and straight, she can't do much with it either. I shouldn't complain about mine.

niccolino59

Jals, I read your comment below, & just wanted to say that your hair is beautiful, especially as all the waves & curls are all natural! How blessed you are!

irmachac

Thank you very much ☺ ♥

jals

Thanks Irma. That is kind of you to say. Enjoy your weekend too.

irmachac

Judy you look very good ... pretty model for your handwork. Nice weekend for you. Irena

jals

Thank you Marina!

jals

It's in the 60's here too After I take a nap, I want to go for a walk.
Hugs to you Bev!

@jals
Hi Judy, how is it with you? We have a sun shiny day today and will be in the 60's. Take care!!

MarinaNephele

Very pretty scarf for you. You look great too. Marina.

jals

Thanks Michelle.
Hugs to you too! XXX♥♥♥

sparklightie

pretty lady with a pretty cowl xx hugs ♥♥

jals

Donna,
You are so sweet. As usual, I'm not pleased with this photo, ha ha but wanted to show the cowl. I have just been letting my hair grow as I don't know what else to do with it. And it has so much natural wave and curl, I can't control it anyway.
Thanks my friend!! ♥♥♥

jals

Thanks puzzlelo.

puzzlelo

Wow, lovely colors on a gorgeous girl! :)

RebeccaB

Thanks!

jals

Rebecca,
This is probably 1/2 a skein. I'm using an N hook. To make it longer, will take more of the skein, but I'm sure one skein will suffice. It would take quite a few for a lap robe, I would think.

RebeccaB

I found the yarn, but I've never used bulky, so I was wondering - is that one skein's worth in the picture? It's hard to estimate how much to get for a lap robe. I love the Paris color - and so do lots of other people because it's sold out several places :) Your cowl will be done just in time for cold weather! Thanks.

jals

Thanks so much Isabel for stopping by and for your kind comment. You have a point about them not being lost. Only if I lose my head. lol
This picture really doesn't do the colors justice. They are much richer in person and I love them too. Thanks again!

jals

Thanks Lynn! I'm so glad you liked this. I have been working on making it longer and now I need to try it on again to see if I like it where it is.
I will try to remember that you are a fellow knitter as well. ♥

IsabelFulton

I love cowls and infinity scarfs, they are so comfy and don't easily get lost, lol. BTW the colors are beautiful!

esterolynn

Hi Judy, My you've been industrious with your beautiful crochet cowl!! I love the colors and I do think it would be nicer if it were longer. I knit, can't crochet. So, I'm into yarn and making nice things such as your cowl. I always feel a sense of accomplishment when I finish a project...I'm sure you do, too! Thanks for sharing your lovely work with us!! (-: Lynn

jals

Thanks nanab. I worked on it tonight while I watched an episode of Midwives.
I am suited to "cool colors" and blues are a cool color. :-))

Thanks Iris! I am lucky I was taught how to crochet when I was 10, and learned to knit when I was just a few years older than that.

Thanks Nicco! It is very soft and warm. I think it will be a great addition this winter. You could make it into a snood and it would work very well for that. Thanks for the idea!

niccolino59

I really love this, jals. The colours are stunning, the stitches are really nice, & it looks so warm & snuggly! Ever thought of using them for snoods? I think it would work equally well.

irisriver

You are very talented! grins!☺

nanab

Those are your colors lovely lady, so pretty!
I vote a little longer too, nice work.

Judy
We have had a fine day today. Absolutely pleasant. I think the weatherman says rain is a comin.
The rest of the week will be a cool down. Take care.----------------

jals

Thank you Suzy! What a kind thing to say. I do not like my pictures and wish I could get them so they're not so close up, but with the cell phone, you have to crop the picture and that immediately makes you LARGER THAN LIFE. lol
xxx

jals

Bev,
My sweet friend. I am doing just fine. It was a beautiful day out today so after having lunch and a great visit with an old friend, I went for a walk. The sun was shining, didn't need a coat, it has been absolutely beautiful here the past couple days and I have gotten out as much as I can. It's all supposed to change Friday though.
How are you doing? ♥
Thank you for your nice comments. :-))

jals

Thanks Julie! How are you doing?

Thank you Char! It's always nice to get another opinion. :-))

jals

Thanks Rebecca.
The yarn is very soft and the colors are so pretty. I hope you are able to find some. It was on clearance when I bought it this summer at Hobby Lobby. I'm trying to use my yarn so hubby doesn't think I'm just hoarding it. ;-)

jals

Aww thanks Bubble. The colors do look better in person. I enjoy keeping my hands busy while I'm watching television or riding in the car. Of course then, hubby points out stuff that I've missed by not watching out the window. AFTER we've been by it. lol
I do remember Mad Magazine, but I was not a big fan of it, so I don't remember the plastic trough, but it does sound handy. ;-)

pumpkinhead

The colors are perfect for you, Judy. A fine looking cowl and a super selfie!!!! What a great photo of your beautiful self! :)

Hi Judy,
This is beautiful and it matches the beautiful face looking back at me. How are you doin?
10-8-19..5:35pm

frauhugs

looks great! (●'◡'●)

julie88

Lookin' good, judy. julie.

RebeccaB

Thanks for the tag, I haven't heard of this line of yarn, will have to check it out. Nice job! I've seen some as long as down to the waist, so make it your own! :)

Bubble

Such pretty moss colours, Judy, you are very adept.

I like the bib part, remember Alfred E Neuman from Mad Magazine, he wore a plastic trough around his neck for eating/watching tv, a great idea. (❀ᴗ❀)

jals

John!
ha - yes, I'm sure I meant to say cool. Cool cowl. When I was in high school cowl neck sweaters were all the thing. Then they went away and came back again. The 2nd time around, I skipped wearing them. This little gem is going to be my adult bib when I eat out. ;-)

jals

Thanks Jaklien!

Thanks Bobbie, that makes me feel like I'm making the right decision.

Thanks Jerry. When I get the buttons sewn on the shawl I made, I will share that too. I really loved the colors in this yarn. I can't stand to watch television without some kind of handiwork to keep my hands busy.

jerrys

@jals Great crocheting, cowl and colors! Thanks for sharing your handiwork.

pasta

Hi Judy, I love it, the colors are great. I would go a bit longer also. :)

Jaklien

How fresh and cheerful you look!
And your scarf too ☺

jals

@RebeccaB

This is the cowl, I just finished. Then decided I'm not finished. I think I will make it longer. This is the length the pattern gave, but I want it longer.
The yarn is Red Heart Colorscape Bangkok. One of my clearance yarns from Hobby Lobby this summer. It looks better in person.
