Yes thank you Canoekaw for that info.
Lela, I think the ducks are very shy about their use of slippers, they really do not want to suffer embarrassment if that secret were to slip out :-0

Good for you, Marilyn! I've thought about it but never googled it. Curiosity keeps you young...I MUST google more! ;DDD

lelabugosi

Strange that there is no mention of slippers .............

canoekaw

I can not help myself, I looked it up. The blood flow to waterfowl feet is arranged differently in a counter-current heat exchange. It seems to be something like a cold radiator (venous blood) and a warm radiator (arterial blood) intertwined. The cool venous blood is warmed by the arterial blood and the arterial blood is cooled by the venous blood. Therefore the duck does not get chilled by the venous blood returning to the heart. I read that a duck loses only 5% of its body heat in the feet. Amazing!

JM_Cookie

Slippers that must be it.

lelabugosi

Slippers?

gemstone

I don't know how their feet stay warm!?!

JM_Cookie

The water is clean and the ducks are all quackers

lelabugosi

It's all quackery!

canoekaw

Is the water so clear I can see the rocks on the bottom? It is a nice little flotilla of ducks.

JM_Cookie

These ducks have lost fear, people keep feeding them despite all the sings that say not to.

ThomasCat

What a lovely picture. They don't seem the least bit afraid of those two hairy beasts (not you Mat...you'll notice I didn't say three hairy) that are up there on the bridge!
