Ha ha Marina, it's a huge specimen of a pine cone and I hope there was no impression that it is also a huge specimen of my leg ... LOL ♥:))

MarinaNephele

A huge specimen of a pine cone.. Thanks Deanna.

Deanna

Yes, Lunie, it's really huge. When I saw it, that seemed impossible to me. Plus, I thought it was a redwood cone - and it wasn't! ♥:))

Dilubreuer

Wow! This is a giant one Dean... lol.

Deanna

Yes Jill, thank you, it's a really big pine cone, because I don't have a leg like Cinderella, especially not in trekking boots ... LOL ♥:))

Deanna

Judy, thank you very much for the explanation, Nicco will certainly appreciate it as much as I do. I don't know what I would answer, because I didn't see any squirrel in Sequoia that would be interested in such a big cone ♥:))

Deanna

Nicco, thank you for your kind visit and message. Your cone collection must be very interesting and pleasant in your home. Sometimes I also bring some interesting cones but I collect stones from places that attracted me. Judy told us how it is with squirrels. I have no experience in this regard. When I imagine a squirrel holding a pine cone in its paws and biting it, I don't know how would handle it with this giant ... LOL ♥:))

JillianB

Foot is a great way to give us perspective. That is one very big cone! ☺️❤️

Juba1010

These grow on the very top of the tree and I’ve never seen one chewed by a squirrel. They like the ponderosa pines cones around here.

niccolino59

I just love pine cones of all kinds, & have a basket of them by my living room fire, but I don't have one as big as this! It's amazing. I'm wondering if the squirrels like them?! Thank you so much for posting this beauty, Deanna.

Deanna

klchapz25 is exactly what surprised me. I assumed that trees so huge as redwoods would also have large cones. It's not like that, their cones are quite small, it's weird, but it's so ♥:))

Wow! That is amazing, but I guess some of the tallest trees in the world would be expected to have huge pine cones!!

Deanna

Yes, Jaklien, that's accurate. It's amazing how an organism can grow to such a size ♥:))

Jaklien

Haha, I felt tiny ;-)

Deanna

Yes, Jaklien, I stood before General Sherman and I couldn't believe my eyes. Stunning tree, did you also feel like you were an ant? ♥:))

Jaklien

Deanna, did you admire the General Sherman Tree too? I felt so insignificant when I stood in front of it.

WOW, it's a very hot day. I read that California has one of the most pleasant climates in the world ♥:))

Juba1010

Yes it’s 92 F (33C) today. California has a Mediterranean climate.

Deanna

Judy, does that mean you have big temperature differences between summer and winter, hot summers and cold winters? I understand you very well, when is a hot day, I dream of winter and I look forward to summer in winter. We're lucky it's alternating ♥:))

Juba1010

The clouds dump their water at this elevation. It’s really hot today so I was enjoying looking at my snow puzzles again.

Deanna

I'm quickly trying to convert ft to meters, that's almost 1220 meters. Judy, you are living so high? That's a surprise to me. That's why you have as much snow in the winter, as I saw in your photos ♥:))

Juba1010

I am in the woods in a small community. 4000ft elevation in the Sierras.

Deanna

Judy, I saw in your photos that your house is surrounded by trees, it's very beautiful, you're actually almost in the woods, right? ♥:))

Juba1010

Yes just like this one. They are not very heavy for their size and the tree is near my deck but not hanging over it. It is a huge tree.

Deanna

Judy, that must be beauty. Does your pine have large cones? Isn't there a danger when they fall? ♥:))

Juba1010

I have a Sugar Pine in my back yard. TFS :-)

Deanna

Nachtwacht, it's not a small foot, it's a big pine cone! Thank you for your funny comment ♥:))

Nachtwacht

Such a little foot. ;-))
