Why are you reporting this puzzle?

Posted by the great Turtleramem, 10 months ago.

That would suggest that this was their Xmas dinner, but the Comments section is all about Thanksgiving, so I throw my hands in the air.

Commenters talked about their own "different" Thanksgivings:

"My idea for next thanksgiving is eschewing all the traditional "supposed to" foods and just making all my favorite dishes for a huge feast."

"We did Chili Rellenos two years ago, smoked brisket last year. This year....roasted, brined chicken breast....with turkey gravy it tastes like the most succulent turkey you've ever eaten. Sometimes going against traditions, is the best tradition."

"This year we did a mole rubbed turkey with masa stuffing and chile gravy. I’m usually a stickler for traditions but when it’s 2020 why not??"

"Pearl Onions with sherry & bacon Mac & Cheese."

"My ex's parents were in the military and stationed in Germany for a long time, and when I went over there for Christmas, they did like an all seafood feast. I don't know if that's a common thing in Germany, but it was definitely a nice change of pace from turkey and stuffing."

"I'm Canadian, so we did this a month ago, but we did Prime Rib and all the fixings (even Yorkshire Pudding) this year. It was a nice departure!"

"Every now and then, we do Korean/Asian food instead of traditional turkey dinner. We will do egg rolls, rice, Jambi, kimchi, pot stickers."

"I was listening to NPR and they were talking about how fish and shellfish would have played a role in thanksgiving and there may not have even been a Turkey. Then they got a guy on there who was making clam stuffing."

"We had the feast of pig this year. Ordered some sausages and pork shank from a local German restaurant, and I made the sides. Pork went into the cornbread dressing and green beans."

[Kimchi is] "the gastrointestinal traffic cop everyone needs at Thanksgiving."

"Thanksgiving meals, to me, are very similar to old Germanic meals - roasted duck, potatoes, sweet applesauce, apple strudel etc. (except replaced with ingredients from this continent - Turkey, cranberries, pumpkin etc.).
So, something like a SauerKraut actually goes very well with the rest of the meal."

Wow, I'm sorry I missed these answers back when I posted it! You folks crack me up.

Kudos to Hoff. :-) @msbonne

@joyceannb - The beagle gets her own bowl, with a little of everything, according to one of the OP's pictures. :-D

@SPaceDinVADerOne - Thank you, sir! :-)
@mauismom - (Lasagna is probably my favorite food)
@Donnajames - as always, I'm with you.

Looks so good. Hope the dog got a piece of turkey.

Donnajames

More food than I could ever eat at one sitting. But it sure looks fantastic. :-)) dj

That is enough food for me for a week…it all, looks delicious.

mauismom

clam stuffing is so good! my friend's Mom made it every year to stuff the turkey at Thanksgiving. Christmas was lasagna. Our family had turkey at Thanksgiving and ham at Christmas. We usually had lamb and pork roasts for Easter.

Watchman

Looks good. ;-)

Obi John is here 😂 lolol

our Thanksgiving starts the night before ... I do all the prep work, including making stuffing from scratch and stuffing the bird, peeling the vegetables, so they are ready for the pot, meat & cheese platters, cheese ball, deviled eggs, all while I slow cook the spiral sliced ham.

my wife does all the cooking Thanksgiving morning. dinner is @1pm, bring your appetite 😉

the menu:
meat & cheese platter
dried beef & onion cheese ball
deviled eggs
taters & gravy
home made stuffing(we make our own croutons)
turkey, ham, & either a roast or leg of lamb (always 3 meats)
corn
whatever veggie is on sale
turnips
fresh baked rolls
and cranberry ............... conserve 😊 with walnuts, orange & raisins
there is also cranberry jelly for the younger grandkids

msbonne

MMM, Thanksgiving.

Koala, lightly raosted with pepper and garlic.
Gator Fritters
Smashed taters.
Komodo Dragon gravy
Cheddar Biscuits
Jalepeno corn bread
Tarantula soup.

Good stuff.

I was interested by all the comments about German meals.

James the 1st, a Scottish dude, was King of England in 1621 during the first Thanksgiving. After his death, England went through all the horrible throes of civil unrest: Oliver Cromwell (I'm half Irish and half English, and I hate Cromwell with all of my halves), the military government, the Interregnum, and all that.

George I was the next guy who actually took and kept the throne in the early 1700s, and he was German. Everyone probably knows this was when the German Hanovers moved into England. They could barely speak English, but it didn't matter much, since English was already a Germanic language - it was the earlier William of Orange, in the time of the Puritans and Pilgrims - who complicated our tongue by infusing it with French.

I've never seen "The Madness of King George," though I'd like to - have any of you? That would be George III, who truly was a victim of early dementia or something. He was the guy that the bloody American colonials fought against, and signed a Declaration against.

Meals are maybe one of the signature symbols of relationship between countries, so we gotta reason and deduce that present-day Thanxgiving traditions were formed during Revolutionary times, and definitely not the 1600s.

(LOL - I've just reminded myself of Mad Magazine's Sherlock Holmes spoof, where Watson says, "How the deuce did you deduce this, Holmes?")

One Commenter says:

"What also makes it weird is how standard the other dishes are. Like its the absolute plainest version of every typical Thanksgiving dish and then BAM, kimchi."

This is NOT a homework assignment, but what do you folks think about non-traditional Thanksgiving fare as mentioned above?

Are you a traditionalist, or do you say "I'll celebrate any damn way I please"? :-)

Mischka

I'll take a stab, beginning at 12:00:

Stuffing
Canned Corn
Green Beans
Deviled Eggs
Mashed Sweet Potatoes
Macaroni and Cheese
Kimchi
Mashed Potatoes with Gravy
Turkey
Cranberry... what? Preserves? Jam? Help me, Obi John @SPaceDinVADerOne, help me!
