In regards to Copyright laws, they vary from country to country. Even if you give credit to the artist, is one still in trouble in regards to the copyright law? Once you posted your own photos, the internet has it and you have lost ownership of it as well, even if you have it protected under copyright laws in your country. Many meme photos come from one photo, just have different words attached to it. This could be interesting problem for all us and for this site.

Thank you for your comments.

And you can also get into differences between the creator and the copyright holder.

For example, if a painter works on commission to paint a portrait, the portrait never belongs to the painter (assuming he he did receive the payment for the work). The copyright instead belongs to the person who paid for the creation of the painting.

PutterDutt - the simple answer is: it's complicated.

Generally, the copyright expires 70 years after the creators death. Unless the person who created the work passed the copyright onto someone else, then it's 70 years after that person's death. Basically, the copyright work is a piece of property that can be bought, sold, or given away to a new owner.

And a corporation, at least in US law, can also be "person".

Is there a time limit in regards to the posting art/photos from deceased artists?

Thank you so much for explaining. Wow, this is really serious, isn't it.

racoonstar

If people are posting images that are owned by someone else without getting their permission, then it is a copyright issue, and the owners of jigidi risk being sued by the legal owners of the image, which would mean an end to Jigidi.com.

A few of the other poster’s are either quitting or have been ban from posting puzzles over copyright issues.

Ok, I know I'm getting older and slower, so could someone please tell me what's going on here? Thanks!

PutterDutt

Just a teeny, tiny protest here, eh? :o)
