Fort Louisbourg, Cape Breton Island...Rodrigue House...The Rodrigue family were successful merchants, frequently sailing ships to Quebec with French and West Indian goods to trade for Canadian grain, flour, and dried vegetables.

In June we travelled by rail from Vancouver (British Columbia) to Montreal (Quebec) where we spent five nights. We then took an overnight train to Moncton (New Brunswick). Next we drove to Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton (Nova Scotia), and flew home from Halifax.

Plus...you're way way out there, Jill...at least by 16th and 17th century standards! LOL ;D

JillianB

Actually that brings to mind the Fort we visited on Guernsey which had turns of being French or British, backwards and forwards plus was occupied by Germany during WWII. No one destroyed it but each added their own bit and 'flavour' really interesting. I'm always so thankful NZ has no shared borders.

JillianB

Oh so it was the whole area! Oh dear.

gemstone

Thank you, Jill...but remember: this entire fort was reconstructed in the 1960-70's as the British blew the original to smithereens the second time they took it...just so it wouldn't be given back to the French during peace negotiations. :)

Memories warm the innards, Don't they? ❤️

JillianB

Nicely built home, still looks really sturdy. Fine shot thanks Faye

pumpkinhead

To have such a fine home one must have been quite successful. Your tour is bringing back memories!

gemstone

And nicely furnished for the time frame, Ardy. ❤️

ringleader

The merchant would have had a nice comfortable house. That one looks substantial. Thanks, Faye. ♥♥
