@humminbirdlvr Thanks, Althea. The abnormally hot, dry weather has stifled the production of its fruit this year. The blossoms didn't last long enough to be fully pollinated. Glad I serendipitously caught them at their peak while on a stroll.

Jerry, these blossoms are beautiful! I love this color! Althea

@Berkeleyborn Thank YOU, my friend.

Berkeleyborn

Great photo of a wonderful tree. Thank you.

I live in Virginia now, so y'all talk funny!

@JillianB Love the story...none of us has an accent to ourselves, for sure...and we are constantly reassuring other of that fact!

The horse chestnuts are gathered at the park by folks, but I know not for what purpose. I don't care to the "real" thing, myself but there are many other folks up north who delight in purchasing roasted ones from city street vendors in the fall and winter. And, of course, it gave Bing Crosby something to sing about... roasting them by an open fire.

JillianB

Jerry your comment on accent reminded me of our trip to Terra Haute for our youngest sons Masters Graduation Ceremony. We were out for dinner and our waitress was fascinated with our accents. Then in all sincerity she said “But we don’t have an accent do we?” We we’re very polite and didn’t laugh out loud.

JillianB

They are looking great! Thanks Jerry

jerrys

@carolsmc Another "foreign language"...Bostonian learned earlier. Out in the rural area of MA there were, of course, no regionalisms or accents (HA!!).

@jerrys
I think you mean, 'younz guys' (I'm originally from the Pittsburgh area). 8^)))

Isaly2

Oh yes the spiky hulls can be a real pain........

jerrys

@carolsmc @eagleboi Aw, youse guys...

@Isaly2 We had a "true" chestnut tree on the farm, and as in the Longfellow poem, it was spread wide. Family friends who liked them came by and picked them up...dad's only condition was that they had to clean up and take away the spiky hulls.

Isaly2

Thanks jerrys for this lovely photo of the red horse chestnut tree blossoms. In Joy your day...

eagleboi

Ok, thanks for the further info, I was wondering all those flowers on a stem would be a ton of chestnuts and the tree would come crashing down lol. Chapter two in botany complete, thank you Jerry.

carolsmc

@jerrys
Aren't these gorgeous! And on a horse chestnut! Thanks, Jigidi U instructor, Jerry!

jerrys

@eagleboi Chestnuts, indeed, but not the edible ones!

eagleboi

I'm sure I've seen these blossoms before but never knew they were from the chestnut tree, another day another lesson, Thanks Jerry.
