East River is seen to the right; the World Trade Center complex is out of the picture to the left. Picture taken while flying the "Hudson River Canyon" in my 1947 Stinson on 13 August, 2015

I was shocked at how low and slow my pilot was going, I think it was an unusual special treat 3 weeks after 9/11 when few planes were flying and my flight was almost empty. Don't remember what model but it was a Delta jet from Atlanta. Low enough to make out landmarks clearly, typical view last 5 miles on most airport approaches but then a sharp right turn just north of the stadium.

Thanks Jan and beatlecarol - now that most US airlines use jets, you no longer get to see the low-down view. My best commercial flight use to be on turboprops from Providence to Newark, which went right the Hudson. When that flight switched to jets , you lost the view and the flight actually takes 15 minutes longer. Flying my airplane down the canyon, you have to stay below 1000 feet the whole way - up close and personal :) kevin

Gorgeous picture.Thanks for sharing..

Lucky you. No better view anywhere. I was on a commercial flight once that flew up the canyon at dusk, just as lights were coming on, crossing at Yankee Stadium to Laguardia. My favorite landing ever!
