I think we should keep drin….I mean checking other options as well.

I believe different types of jellyfish have different treatments. Hot water is specified for bluebottles. The jelly stings at Dillon beach just need rubbing alcohol. We found that top shelf gin works too.

msbonne

It is very salty, but then, so is the ocean, so you do not really notice.

nanab

That answer was in response to a question about an episode of 'Friends.'

nanab

I haven't had Lawry's for years. My Dad always put it on his eggs.
It's very salty.

msbonne

I am telling you. Meat tenderizer is the way to go. I used Lawry's, but I am sure others would work as well. I would avoid any that contain hot peppers or spices.

nanab

Always learning;
Unfortunately, in the real world treating a jellyfish sting by urinating on it may actually cause someone in Monica's situation even more pain, rather than relief. Urine can actually aggravate the jellyfish's stingers into releasing more venom. This cure is, indeed, fiction.

Mischka

Pee is an urban legend! Do not use urine, for the love of the ... sea gods?

nanab

That is a more appealing technique.

msbonne

THAT is the most common method nanab.

I preferred the meat tenderizer. Instant relief, and you did not have to pee on yourself (or worse, have somebody else do it).

nanab

I thought it was urine?

Mischka

Hoff, you're up early again. Do we need to tenderize you to let you sleep?

Juba, I have often wondered what the proper treatment is; so thank you!

msbonne

I used to carry a container of meat tenderizer on the boat for just such an occasion.

Juba1010

Not a good idea to step on them. The treatment for stings is to immerse in hot shower for twenty minutes.

Ms_Maddy

Hmmm not sure on the eyes but seems unlikely.

Mischka

I am honored! Thank you! But I don't want one for a pet. It IS beautiful. Do they have eyes? Do they NEED eyes?

msbonne

Actually kshastings, this is different. The PMOW has blues, but mostly purple. Same basic organism design, but slightly different.

nanab

I got this one wrong. That's a beautiful blue color. I'm going to have to delve deeper into this to learn more. Thank you MsMaddy.

kshastings

On the Texas coast we call them "Portuguese man-o-war"

msbonne

Does that not kind of give the answer?

Ms_Maddy

@Mischka a jellyfish just for you.

Ms_Maddy

Lucky for you!

msbonne

As I am not Portuguese, It is none of MY kin.
