Terri, thank you so much for your helpful information and advice. I will look into the livestock guardian facebook pages. And, thanks again for such great photo/puzzles. --Merrie

I suggest a livestock guardian dog. The white one is awesome with my birds. I have 2 other dogs that are not good with birds loose. They will hold them down and lick them to death. But they are excellent with the goats. And protect the birds in their runs and coops. My chickens have learned to stay out of that pen. It depends on your set up and your predator load. I suggest if you belong to facebook join one of the livestock guardian pages. I have learned so much from them. Thanks for liking my photos. Have a good day. Terri

Wow, he sure did grow up! He is still a handsome dog and must be very good at his job.
We have been considering a livestock guard dog, but were not sure it would work with our mix of critters. We have the same as you-- goats, chickens and guineas--- so if it works for you, then we will look into getting a good dog (hopefully one as great as yours).
Do you have all your livestock in the same large pasture? Our chickens have already learned they can go through a fence with big squares like the one in your photo. How does your dog manage to keep the chickens inside the fence?
I have heard that having two dogs is best for guarding livestock. Your two look like they are well suited for the job.
Thanks for the great photos of your animals. --Merrie

Dogs are smarter than we think. I haves little chihuahua who sits at the top of my bed and guards me. He thinks he is a Saint Bernard.
