One more thought suemarie... This is what makes this country great. You can express your opinions and I can express mine. Whether you are right and I am wrong is nonconsequential. The important thing here is the fact that we can speak freely and openly and express our opinions. But I have no intention of turning jigidi into a political forum. I come here for the puzzles and the amusement, not to argue about topics or people we have no control over. Peace

No suemarie, I'm not saying the use of the "n" word is to be taken as a joke, but I will say it is not provable Jeff Sessions ever used the word. This is from an article in The Huffington Post: "Another ACCUSATION that came up was that Sessions had once allegedly approached an opponent at the conclusion of a court hearing and angrily used a racial slur. In the hearing, Joe Biden said “It is SUGGESTED that you (meaning Jeff Sessions) stated to Mr. Wiley at the conclusion of a particularly contentious hearing back in 1981, ‘Do not worry,’ or ‘do not be too happy’…’John will be watching you and the n*gger,’ referring to the only black commissioner in Mobile,” Jeff Sessions immediately denied that this had happened, saying, “that is an absolutely false statement,”  Notice the words "ACCUSATION" and "SUGGESTED". That does not mean it is factual or provable.

@suemarie, you really should do your own research on Sessions as he is not the racial person the liberal press has made him out to be. He has introduced more legislation to assist blacks than most all others. He is not what he is being made out to be. What they oppose is his conservative views but play the race card in order to attack him. And one other thing, all of us have used the N word in some form or another at one time, none of us are totally innocent of that and it does not mean someone is racist.

rswestley--was Sessions' use of the "n" word also humorous? I didn't say that he claimed that THAT was a joke. As for his "joke" about the KKK, I suppose that if Obama had "joked" that the Black Panthers had had the right idea in what they were doing, you'd agree that that was okay for him to say, because he was joking? You'd ACCEPT that it was a joke, the way that I'm supposed to accept that Sessions didn't really mean it?

It's good to know that Sessions has some redeeming qualities, hancheye. Let's hope that he brings that side of his history to his new job.....

Well hancheye, I can tell we see "eye to eye" (so to speak) on some subjects. But no worries, if WWIII is fought with a Sega Genesis or a PlayStation 4 we will be in pretty good shape. Otherwise ???

I would do more than "worry about the education the kids are getting today" and I support President Elect Trumps position to return the education of our children to the states. It is so sad, I do not even find it funny although others do, when they cannot even recognize the Vice President (Biden) of the United States. Can you imagine if we had a world war III and some of the youth of today asked to fight for our country as 18 and 19 years olds did 75 years ago? Wonder if their play dough and coloring book mentality would do them much good. Of course they could all seek their "safe space" and that is exactly what some of the youth today would do if the USA was forced to implement the draft because of war.

Actually suemarie I thought the statement about Sessions was humorous and as you mentioned Sessions said it jokingly. As a matter of fact, that line could be used for almost anyone and it could be taken as humor. Even Brad Pitt of Barrack Obama. But what amazes me today is when you see "the man in the street" showing posters of well known people to passersby and they cannot identify the person in the picture. People like Joe Biden or John Kerry. Or Ben Franklin or Franklin Delano Roosevelt. There are probably some here on jigidi that could not identify Abraham Lincoln. I worry about the education the kids are getting nowadays.

Are you aware that Jeff Sessions adamantly insisted that Rosa Parks be awarded the Congressional Gold Medal and had to twist arms to get it done? Are you aware that Jeff Sessions attached an amendment to a appropriations bill that gave one million dollars to Alabama to construct a Rosa Parks Library?

suemarie

Well, there's Jeff Sessions, for one. In 1986, a Senate committee denied Sessions, then a 39-year-old U.S. attorney in Alabama, a federal judgeship. His former colleagues testified Sessions used the n-word and joked about the Ku Klux Klan, saying he thought they were "okay, until he learned that they smoked marijuana."

@suemarie, so tell me who has Trump picked as a cabinet member, on appointments so far, who is racist?

suemarie

How times have changed.....

Yes, a republican who freed the slaves,

Abraham Lincoln?
