Yes, I had a nice turkey day...and leftovers....and left overs LOL! Hope you did, too. ;-))

@gemstone @Meadowlark. Thank you both for the excellent explanations about how to create our own safe water. I did not know that is all distilled water was. Seems simple enough and will be using only one jug, lessening my carbon footprint.

@reed. Hope you had a nice turkey day. Yes, we have also had a much colder --and rainier fall. Regardless, stay safe. ;-))

I knew, Impie, that you live in Holland and don't celebrate Thanksgiving and I knew that Faye lives in Canada and they just celebrated their Thanksgiving, but I did not want to exclude either one of you. By the way, my great, great Grandmother was born in Holland in the 1830's so we are practically cousins. Tell your son it is okay to wake his old cousin after the snow melts. LOLOL

The salts (sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate) are PH balanced so that they don't irritate the nose linings. And it's easier...premeasured. However, years ago my uncle had his hard palate removed because of cancer. They created a soft palate using skin from his thigh. He used to "snuffel" salt water every morning...and he was a pharmacist. So if you want to use your own solution it would seem to work.
Hint: When you are bent over the sink, take a deep breath. As you gently squeeze the bottle, exhale through your mouth. I discovered that helps keep any salt water from hitting the back of my throat.

Meadowlark

@gemstone Thanks. What I don't understand is the need to buy the packets. Why can't we just add so much water and so much salt (guessing that is NaCl but I could do KCl or whatever salt. Why the need for packets?

A different way of asking, would the system till work with just whatever solution (I'm thinking a dilute saline solution) without a "packet" in place?

gemstone

@Meadowlark I use NeilMed. You buy the kit which contains a bottle and 50 packets of salts. They say to replace the bottle every three months...but if you use boiled water to shake with soap to clean, and rinse I think that's a bit of a ploy as my water is quite safe. Then you can buy a box of 100 packets only and change the bottle when you think necessary. Also, it's much cheaper at Costco. While I didn't want to do it at first once you get into the routine it's okay. The allergist suggested using it in the shower but the bathroom sink is much easier. Also, it was originally recommended every day but after the first few months I switched to every other day. There are other more expensive systems available but to me that means more intensive cleaning...just to do the same job...and this is much easier to travel with. Good luck. Faye ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚

Meadowlark

@gemstone I've been thinking of getting a nasal lavage system ever since it was suggested to me but I've put it off because I don't know anything about them. What make/model are you using? Would you buy again if you were starting over, or what changes would you make? ps HH, MM!

Amazing the things you learn on Jigidi. You could probably rig up something like that for the microwave and do it even faster. Good guess, Kay. I live between Indiana and Pennsylvania in Sandusky, Ohio. Sandusky is right on Lake Erie about half way between Toledo and Cleveland. Across Lake Erie is Canada. It has already been colder than normal. Have a happy Thanksgiving and stay warm everyone.

Faye's right - if you don't need to remove the mineral deposits for your equipment, boiling kills the germs and is a lot easier.

gemstone

@kayboblee One asthma doctor recommended nasal lavage for me. It said to use ONLY distilled water or boiled water. I started off with distilled water...particularly for travelling...but soon I decided just to bring water to a full boil and allow it to cool. I then stored it in a Tupperware sealed juice jug. I've been doing that for over a year and a half now and have had no problems.

Meadowlark

@kayboblee You can distill water on the stove. It's easy to do and saves the expense but I guess you would have to ladle out the distilled water or wait until it cools down to comfortable temperature to start the next batch.

The set up: Large pot with some water in it, smaller empty pot that sits inside the larger one, a rounded lid placed upside down on the larger pot. Turn on the heat under it all - it can but doesn't need to boil. Place some ice cubes on the lid to speed up the condensation process. The inner pot collects the condensate - i.e., distilled water.

kayboblee

@gemstone and reed.

Faye, it is very good to hear a heartwarming story of better endings and successful rescues amid all the untold stories of lost homes, livelihoods and roads, bridges and necessities. We all need to hear the uplifting stories given news often focuses on the less happy situations.

We have some issues here in Washington with goods--for some reason, we can not buy more than 3 of any type of water product. We use distilled water for Bob, my husband's c-pap machine, and for our misting humidifiers, so we can only buy three gallons at a time. Not much of a concern, but it does say there are problems in the supply chain.

Faye, I am happy to hear you have suffered little effect from the storms and just hope that the future storms we are in for will come far enough apart that the earth does not become too saturated. We need to count on our dear Mother Earth to hold up for us. ;-))

Sharon, for some reason I am thinking you are in PA or IND or a state close by. Those two areas are supposed to have a very cold winter this year. We are supposed to be colder than normal as well. Hope not too cold. I do wish that you and your loved ones have a Happy Thanksgiving. ;-))

Great story about the couple and all their critters. "They" are really making good progress. Hugs

gemstone

@kayboblee Thank you...we are safe. The only "touch" we have of the disaster is that we are limited to 30 gallons of gas per fill up...but as we are retired that's no burden to bear. Also we have been limited to two litres (quarts) of milk when we shop. Some of the dairy farmers hope to be "up and running" this week so I genuinely hope that means no more milk flushed down the drains. The gas pipeline is supposed to open soon so perhaps the gas restrictions might be eased before December first. Also, the railways said they would be coming through on Wednesday 24/7 but I really don't understand how they made their repairs so quickly. Highway 97 up through the Fraser Canyon has now been closed between Lytton (the town that was burned down in July) and Spences Bridge due to more flooding and landslides. One great story from that area is of a couple...totally isolated on a bit of higher land...with a horse, two miniature horses, and 7-8 puppies...watching their house vainly fight against tumultuous flood waters. Fortunately an off-duty RCMP officer was stranded with them. He built a signal fire to keep warm and they were spotted by a helicopter. Sometime later another helicopter appeared and lifted them all out to safety. The horses are being sheltered in Kamloops where the SPCA moved all the adoptable animals to other shelters so that they would have room to house and care for all the displaced people's pets until the families can pick them up. โค๏ธ

@reed - I did ask (Liertje (my son) and he said he'd think about it LOL

I also can't bear to watch the footage, Impie. I've seen too many disasters and it makes me cry and causes me to have nightmares. My heart goes out to all of the people and all of the poor animals, but I just can't watch it. I think we should use the colored lights because we have enough white...the siding is white, Santa's beard and hair are white (my hair is white), all that snow is white. Need a little color. Could you ask Liertje to wake me too when all the white stuff is gone? The only hope for "senior moments", Faye, is to be thankful you (eventually) recognize you had a "senior moment" and can laugh about it. I think you all have wonderful senses of humor. @gemstone - Thanks for the link, Faye. I didn't know that in 1948 (the year Andrรฉ was born) similar disaster happened in B.C. Many Dutch immigrated to Canada (also to the USA and Australia) in the 50's and 60's. Many also came back disappointed, but many 'made it' overthere. The name Toop doesn't ring a bell as being a typical Dutch name, but it could well be it is. โ˜บ

That's really serious....I hope all the help with the sandbags and pumping will pay off!
About all those cows that died, it's so awful. I get what you mean, Faye, what happened to those poor animals and the distress they must've suffered brings tears to my eyes, just thinking of it. I can't bear watching footage of it!

@Meadowlark - Thank you for your kind words. I do also know that you're pulling my leg so to speak (but please not when I'm up on the ladderโ˜บโ˜บ) I need you to know that I like your sense of humour and take no personal offence! I might not always 'get' it, but I'm not afraid to ask to explain what is exactly meant by it either! โ˜บโ˜บ

@reed - I have lovely decoration LED lights to spare, white ones but also in mixed colours. I have plenty left to decorate my garden too! โ˜บ

Glad to hear the rains have subsided and all of you are safe. I worked a lot of disasters when I was younger and I believe the floods, mud slides, and fires are Mother Nature at her worst, but they also bring out the best in people...like volunteers building a wall to protect the pumping station. Praying for all of you caught in that soggy, muddy mess.

EllaMB

WOW! So much has gone on the last couple of days! I've been so busy and haven't had much time to post anything. My goodness, I really haven't heard anything on the news about all the devastating events happening up North. @gemstone - Faye, I'm glad you're being safe and hope and pray that the flooding is over. All of the mud and rockslides are just as devastating as all the fires last year. Hopefully, the cleanup can be accomplished as quickly as possible. There was no rain, flooding nor rock/mudslikes here.

@reed - Sharon, thanks for holding off with the cucumber sandwich party! It'll be more fun when the weather is warmer. Although California gets snow, it's usually only higher up. Solano County is only about 1,000 ft so, it's rare for us to get snow down this low.
We had thick fog everyday for about a week with afternoon sun, but as of today it's been back to sun and 69ยฐ. Rain has been predicted for Friday with snow at the higher levels up around Lake Tahoe. Hope you and the girls are staying nice and cozy!

@Impie - LOL! Because I know how much you hate S.N.O.W., so putting a hold on a cucumber sandwich party would be for the best!

@Meadowlark - I'm in Vacaville, California, East Bay Area. I'd love to be getting outside to get some yardwork done, but the ground is still so saturated from all the rain we have about a month ago. Been working on remodeling a bedroom and it should be finished sometime next week. It just needs painting and the ceiling fan installed.

gemstone

@Meadowlark You are near ringleader2 (Ardy) who lives in Maryland right on the DC border...about ten miles from the Capitol, I think. We live in Vancouver on the Fraser River. Abbotsford is a 45-60 minute drive east at highway speeds. Ella is in Washington State but I don't know where.

@Impie.. We now have a State of Emergency declared. One small farmer lost 20K-45K chickens, and 150 cows. He has his baby calves in his heated office in the barn. Hundreds and hundreds of other cows have died. It is heart-breaking...and I don't mean the farmers' losses...but the fear and panic those poor animals must have felt...absolute terror... One good note on the news right this moment is in regards to the pumping station. A few hundred people showed up at midnight last night to sandbag the station...which is not only processing water from our huge Fraser River but from a river in Washington State that is flowing into Abbotsford. By 2 a.m. the volunteers had built a wall 40 feet long, 5 feet thick, and 7 feet high around the pumping station.

Meadowlark

@gemstone I am in Baltimore Maryland USA. Seeing Abbotsford and Vancouver on the map. Where are you? Do you know where @EllaMB is? It's just devastating - all that I'm hearing. I'm going to try to check out the links in posts below. I've just had connectivity problems today and everything is slow going. But tomorrow it's shooting up to 70 F and I'm just itching to get outside and get some stuff done.

The first I became aware was this kid Ron Placone who does a little video podcast and one day it was just some photos of the damage and his lament on seeing this happen to his beloved Vancouver. I'm guessing he wasn't exactly geographically accurate but attempting to communicate with a US audience that scarcely knows more than Canada is our neighbour to the north. Sad but true. So I salute him trying to arouse some empathy. I have no heart to criticize.

Which bring me to you @Impie . You need to know that I'm just in awe of you; I love you to bits and I am only kidding when I say the wacked out criticisms that I say. I say the things my siblings and I said to each other: insults that are never to be taken seriously. I know you're a couple of months younger, but when I grow up, I'd like to be like you. That's my dream anyway. And when I mention you, it's just a rouse to include you in the conversation. Know it comes from respect.

gemstone

@Impie I vaguely remember pictures in our newspapers of a big flood in 1948 in the Fraser Valley...where Abbotsford is...and many people died then, too. And as a tragic connection...many people there are of Dutch heritage. The Sumas Prairie where the flooding is now is flat...and reminded many Dutch immigrants of home with its fertile soil, and vegetable and dairy farms. A few Dutch immigrants eventually established flower/bulb farms there, too.
Here's a clipping remembering that disastrous flood...just wondering if Toop might be a Dutch name...

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/fraser-valley-flood-1948-1.4659523

Impie

@gemstone - thanks for filling me in, Faye, it's just awful. I hope the survivors will get all the help to rebuild their lives! I really feel for them๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’

I was still a baby (of abt.9ยฝ months old) when in 1953 here was the flood. (Watersnoodramp) so I have no personal recollection of when it actually happened, but so many people and animals have died then and so many lost their homes and belongings. Terrible traumatic times!

gemstone

@Impie This was an American invasion, Impie! LOL These deluges travel northeast from Hawaii about this time of year...we call them the Pineapple Express. This one was particularly bad. A small town called Merritt with a population of 7,000 was completely evacuated when the river nearby flooded its banks, engulfed the town, and knocked out their water treatment plant. Merritt had been evacuated only a few months ago because of the terrible forest fires. We drive through there once in a while if we take a different route to my sister's. Landslides also hindered a number of vehicles approaching the east side of Hope. As there was a landslide behind them, they were trapped, people had to sleep overnight in their cars with no food or water other than what they carried with them. Fortunately the 75 people ...many of them children...were helicoptered out by dusk the next day. Guess they'll have to travel back to pick up their vehicles.
The majority of Vancouverites are really very, very fortunate...and should count our blessings...I can't imagine being homeless in that kind of weather...and Vancouver has the largest homeless population in all of Canada... ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’

Impie

@Meadowlark - we could decorate the ladder with Christmas lights and put on a Santa doll with a bag full of gifts as if he's climbing the ladder. I'm sure after the season someone will get fed up with the Christmas decorations and perhaps the ladder then will be removed, although if she wants to have it sit there until we can finally come to help her out it's fine by me! I don't have OCD but IDC (I(mpie) Doesn't Care)โ˜บโ˜บโ˜บโ˜บ

@gemstone - Faye, I haven't follow any news lately and I had no ideawhat was going on let alone that it's been this bad. I'm really sorry for what the heavy rain has caused. Mother Nature is beautiful, but can also be very destructive:(((

gemstone

@Meadowlark The Lower Mainland...from Vancouver out to Abbotsford...is okay. Vancouver has an International Airport which is fully functioning, the border to the States is open, and we have a huge, international Port receiving freighters from all over the world. It's the highways to the interior of the province that have been cut off from us. Up north they have access to Alberta and down south they have access to the States (Idaho) but most deliveries come from Vancouver and it requires rerouting trucking routes and rail use. The Fraser Canyon (Highway 97) will probably be opened soonest as there is less damage there...it's just that you have to go through Abbotsford where there is extensive flooding. The part that worries me is that a pumping station there is going to fail and the mayor is telling everyone to leave...abandon your livestock and leave!!! We have the largest dairy farm in Canada there...over 3,000 cows...along with numerous other smaller farms. The cows are belly high in flood water. Do they need milking? How will they get fed? Will they drink sewer water? Just terrible!!!

Here are two news stations that you could check out:

https://bc.ctvnews.ca/b-c-mudslide-was-fatal-rcmp-says-confirming-body-of-woman-recovered-1.5668720

https://globalnews.ca/news/8380042/abbotsford-fire-flooding-evacuations/

I watched some of the CTV news link but for some reason could not open the Global News. You could also check CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) in Vancouver. And you could probably google a highway map showing where all the closures are.

Fingers crossed that things are up and running soon...although more rain is predicted...just not the deluge we had last weekend. Thank you for your concern...and work on getting COP26 commitments expanded. BTW where are you located? โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

Meadowlark

@gemstone It is so good to hear that you have turned a corner and getting a reprieve. I hope things are looking up for you as well @EllaMB.

I was horrified when I saw some footage posted by a comedian in California who was reporting on the devastation of Vancouver - which is one of his favorite places to visit. I had no idea you both were that close. It's very scary to see how much infrastructure can be swept out at a moment's notice.

Please keep us up to date. It would be fantastic if you could post some pictures as puzzles to show us what you see. Anyway, given @Impie 's OCD, if she keeps looking @reed 's ladder that hasn't been put away as we go into winter, I have a feeling she'll find a way to do something about it. And no one can fault her; she keeps an amazing showcase going all calendar. And I mean amazing.

I don't have tv. Be my North American continent video news alert station for me. And stay safe.

gemstone

Knock on wood...it's sunny this morning! The waters are receding but the Lower Mainland and the rest of the province are still disconnected. However, I'm pretty sure the route to my sister's will be open for Christmas as they have to get the supply trucks rolling...a few grocery stores have a LOT of empty shelves up country. It has turned tragic though...they found the the body of a middle-aged woman from one of the cars that was swept off the road by a debris slide. They are still searching for more cars under many metres of mud, boulders, and huge trees. More rain is predicted but not the deluge of the past weekend. Might try to put up our new Christmas lights along the balcony today while it is still dry...I need some happy colour in my life at night.

My dogs will politely take treats, Impie, and when they feel like it, they are very disciplined...but that won't keep them off your lap. LOL I hate that white stuff, too, but I would rather have the white stuff than the brown stuff threatening Faye and Ella right now. I'll let you know when the cucumber sandwich party is rescheduled. Sunshine here today! But after the last three days!!!...the Lower Mainland (Vancouver plus 7-8 other communities) is cut off from the rest of the province and vice versa. Nobody is going anywhere...including food delivery truckers...as the highway and rail lines have been washed out in many areas. Landslides can be cleared but holes need to be filled and stabilized before paving can be replaced and railway tracks will require even more specialized construction...wonder if they'll get permission to go down through Idaho and across...Good thing you've cancelled the cucumber sandwiches...although I could always catch a flight... โ˜”๏ธโ˜ƒ๏ธโ˜”๏ธโ˜ƒ๏ธโ˜”๏ธ

Meadowlark

I don't use macros anymore, but you probably remember the combo "Control-Alt-Delete" that could be used to close an application or shut down the operating system. I had a cute one for an auto response to a complaint which was satisfying. ha ha. I'll just put that one in the "In defense of macros" bin.

But I thought of something else. If the jumping cursor is happening to someone using a computer with a touchpad AND you use a mouse instead, all it takes is brushing across the touchpad to move the cursor to a different place.
HOW TO TURN IT OFF: Click on Windows icon / Click on Settings / in the search window that appears start type "touchpad" / When that comes up change "ON" to "OFF".

Hope that helps someone. Reed, honestly, if you had your etch a sketch back, you'd find doing these puzzles more challenging than could be expressed by all 4 of your hammers. But I like the image of each Dr. Hammer having to weigh in before they declare the computer dead. Little Dr. Ball-Peen saying, "Oh, you missed a spot Dr. Sledge." BAM. "There, time of death . . . ."

ps. I hope you're not climbing the ladder with that sledge hammer.

Oh, Meadowlark, you do have a way with words. LOL! This "macro" stuff is all part of the conspiracy. No one knows what the particular succession of keys is, no one knows it's purpose, almost no one knows it is there...instant melt down. Well, I have four hammers, from very small up to sledge hammer, and even the very small one will smash an anxious cucumber. I want my Etch-a-Sketch back!
@EllaMB
@Impie
@gemstone
@Meadowlark

Meadowlark

@reed, @EllaMB Increasingly, computers are coming with macros built in - automated input sequence that imitates keystrokes or mouse actions. They might move stuff, delete stuff or create stuff and they are activated by hitting a particular succession of keys. For sure, these things are not the Etch-a-Sketch of days of yore.

Meadowlark

I saw this today and it keeps rattling around in my head since:

The human body is 80% WATER, so basically, we are just cucumbers with anxiety.

Given the liberal use of hammers discussed here, I expected the cucumbers to be anxious, but they're saying is that it's US. What have I missed? Is someone here anxious?

Cucumbers, computers, OK; you'll get a pass on that. But now the humans are getting upset. You need to put the hammers down. Gently.

Mine is about as old as yours, Faye, and I went out and bought a new one once, but I returned it the next day because I could not figure out how to get it started. I do not understand why they don't come with instruction manuals. At least I would have some clues. The same thing happens to me, Ella, when I am typing comments on Jigidi. Don't know how or why. I am certain that this is all a big conspiracy by the manufacturers so that we will all have melt downs, beat our computers to death, and then have to go buy new ones. Warning....hide your hammers! ;-)))

I'm glad I'm not the only one who temped to have a meltdown and it's usually because I don't know what I'm doning. The most frustrating thing for me is when I start typing the curser will jump to a different line somewhere else on the document. It's probably because I'm still using an outdated Microsoft Word progam.

Impie

Mine is Oct.'17. Patrick took care of the hardware and left Leroy to do the software. I learned quite a few 'new words' I can tell you, but in the end the computer is working just fine!๐Ÿ˜Œ

I get that, Ella. The frustration a computer sometimes can give is terrible. I'm sometimes tempted to open the window and throw it out, but then I realize that I'm so lucky to have my son(s) fixing my computer when needs be!โ˜บโ˜บ

Oh, Ella, I couldn't agree with you more. My laptop is perpetually in danger of being beaten to death. The only thing that saves it is I would then have to go out and buy a new one and start learning how to use it all over again. LOL! Glad you got yours working again.

Hey, @EllaMB: today when i went to put something away in my kitchen junk drawer, I saw the ball peen hammer I inherited from my dad. And I broke out laughing. But I shut the drawer without taking it in hand. Insufficient problems, I guess.

EllaMB

Hey Sharon, Meadowlark, Faye, and Impie, thanks again for the birthday wishes!
I would love cucumber finger sandwiches with cream cheese on oatwheat bread and a glass of sweet tea!
When all my problems start looking like a nail, I make sure the hammer has been put away! I could do a lot of dammage, as many things become frustrating, especially when it comes to the computer not cooperating. Sometimes the fingerprint log on works and sometimes it refuses, so I have to use the password to unlock Windows. The fingerprint didn't want to work today and neither did the password. I could have used a hammer....luckily, I was no where near one! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Impie

Sounds great, reed. LOL

It sounds to me like you are all a bit "hammered". Since you are the "harvester" AND the "cook", Faye (who is indeed gemstone), it will be up to you to make sure you harvest enough cucumbers and produce enough sandwiches so that Babe and Izzy can share in the delights. You know they like cucumbers (see additional reed photos). I'm up for a challenge, Impie. I've never had hammered cucumber on crushed toast before either and it doesn't sound any worse than cucumbers with butter and mayo or cucumbers with cream cheese and chives. I am sure Babe and Izzy (my two dogs) would like all of them. And if we take enough breaks and have enough left over champagne I'm sure we will like them all, too. LOLOL

gemstone

Getting "hammered" sounds a lot better! Where's that champagne left over from Ella's birthday bash? I could probably pound nails perfectly then! LOL ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ

P.S. The cucumber sandwiches that we have been served for English "tea" only have butter and a bit of mayonnaise...with the crusts removed, of course...and chilled.

P.P.S. If we use Sharon's cucumbers we will first have to check to see if B&I "helped" harvest... ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰

Impie

LOL If Faye could keep the hammer, it would be a challenge to try something different, perhaps 'hammered cucumber on crushed toast'...never had that before! ๐Ÿค”

Meadowlark

@reed

Place thinly sliced cucumbers on plain white bread that has been spread with cream cheese with chives and cut into finger food. Try it one day - one day when the heat is getting to you.

If you put Faye on it, get back that hammer first.
Do I have that right? Is @gemstone Faye?

It will be a GREAT day, Meadowlark. I've never had a cucumber sandwich, but Faye can pick the cucumbers from my garden...can't get any fresher than that. Hope she knows how to make them, LOL.

๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ‚ Happy Birthday, Ella! And many, many more! ๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ‰

@reed
One day your yard will be filled with women sipping coffee, eating cucumber sandwiches, watching you work and applauding every step of the way. It'll be a good day.

@gemstone no worries about that. When your only tool is a hammer, every problem starts looking like a nail. It'll come naturally.

@EllaMB Happiest of Birthdays.

You see, Faye, it worked for Tom Sawyer...and for me. LOLOL!

@EllaMB Happy Birthday dear Ella, and many, many more. Hugs

gemstone

I'm okay at climbing ladders...just not good at pounding nails! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰

Impie

@reed - OK then, call me when you need me. Perhaps I can convince Faye to help us too ( not climbing ladders) maybe pouring coffee or make lunch while we take a little break! LOL

@gemstone I think that was Tom Sawyer, Faye, and SHHHHH!, I've almost got them convinced!!
@Meadowlark It's freezing nights here, too, but I don't go into hibernation mode until after Christmas. We still have time to get the front wall done - it is not as tall and we can almost do it without the ladder. I cant do much about the daylight savings time...or the horse.
@Impie Sorry, Impie, still need your help. There are three more walls to go. Love virtual help, LOL!
@EllaMB We all know that Christmas VACATION is coming. We could get a lot done while you are on break. I must confess that there were times that I had to measure more than twice...and still had to cut more than once. Trial and error, LOL!

Thanks, ladies, you made my day! ;-)))

Meadowlark

@reed - I'll be on my way as soon as I find my horse. And we get back to Daylight Savings Time. It's freezing nights here already - and we're a bit more southernly. I'm moving into hibernation mode for the winter.

@gemstone - After 2 years of Covid pandemic, whitewashing a fence AND trying to figure out this siding stuff sounds like a blast. And I've learned the trick to travel is a good comfortable travel chair. No one EVER has to invite me to take a break. My talents in pointing out, "You've missed a spot there" are unexcelled.

Impie

@reed - Looks good, but I guess you don't need my help, you've finished it up nicely yourself! LOL

@gemstone - Thanks for your concern, Faye, I'm just fine, my 'help' will be virtual! LOL

EllaMB

LOL, Faye!
I'd gladly help you out Sharon, if I could get away, but right now my tutoring job is calling. It really doesn't look too difficult...measure twice, cut once... and there shouldn't be a problem.

Don't fall for whatever line Sharon is giving you...she is a very talented woman and extremely capable! It sounds like a bit of Huckleberry Finn's "white washing the fence routine" is happening here! LOLOL ๐Ÿ˜‰โค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‰

LOL, Haven't done much this year. Trying to get Ella, Impie, and Meadowlark to come and help, LOL Hugs

Sharon I thought Wow you had been busy in the last few days, of course it was last years, looking so good Hugs

@EllaMB
@Impie
@Meadowlark
Thought you might like to see what you would be getting into, LOL!

Kay, I hope your life time paint works, but if it doesn't, I recommend vinyl siding. If you can hammer a nail, you can put up siding. YouTube will show you everything. It really was like doing a very large jigsaw puzzle and then nailing the pieces in place LOL.

kayboblee

Wow, reed, you really did save on this project. and it looks great. Good for you. Smart to get the rest of the walls done to avoid painting and replacing wood in the future. We painted with a life time paint a couple of years ago and hope that it really does prove to be exactly that. Getting too old as you understand as well. ;-))

Thanks, kayboblee, my " courage and determination " were a direct result of my finances. The whole wall, including nails, paint, siding, and some wood that had to be replaced only cost about $500. I learned a lot and when the snow melts and the weather gets a little warmer, I am going to start on another wall. No more painting for me....eventually. ;-))

kayboblee

Wow, I am amazed at your courage and inspired by your determination. Looks like you did an excellent job--and saved tons on the labor. No future painting either--a smart cookie you are. ;-))

And, I can leave it outside and no one will steal it!!!

Thanks, everyone. This was something I had never done before, Faye. The wood on the weather side of my house was rotting and had to be replaced but I was unable to get wood because of all the fires in the west and the pandemic. I went on line and watched several videos on how to do vinyl siding and decided to give it a shot. It's not perfect but it won't rot and it will never have to be painted. I am just soooo happy it is done.

gemstone

A big job well done, Sharon!!! Is this something you did in "real" life or is it a skill learned of necessity?

Merry Christmas โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

puzzeljac

Beautiful. Sharon. At last the weather was good enough to finish it. You are great. โ™ฅโ™ฅโ™ฅ

At least you can leave it outside and no one will steal it

Thank you, Val, I'm just glad it is done! ;-))

Brilliant job Sharon you must be so pleasedโ™ฅโ™ฅ
