Why are you reporting this puzzle?

This past year a Woodpecker pecked out the holes so big in some of our bird houses that they were no longer usable. One of those houses sat high in the air on a long steel pole. We removed the old house this spring and I built the one in this photo that was very similar to the old one. Recently, a pair of Tree Swallows began nesting in the upper story and a pair of House Wrens occupied the ground floor unit. The bird on top of the house is one of the swallows. We have a number of birdhouses around our yard and garden. This week we have affirmed that five pairs of Tree Swallows, three pairs of House Wrens and one pair of Bluebirds are currently nesting in our houses.

BJEE, thanks for sharing. I grew up only 18 miles from Oregon State University. I went to college twenty miles from there. It is interest they found a new color after all these years. Too bad they couldn't come up with another name. Terry

Terry and Sue, I was watching the TV the other day/eve, and they were saying that there is a new shade of blue found...... Oregon State University lab discovered a new blue pigment. They named it YInMn... It reflects infrared lights and can be used to keep buildings cool in paint. It is easy to look up on the internet. Anyway, just thought I would share, as you said Sue's favorite color is blue.

BirdNana, I figures two species in the same structure is not that common but they appear to be getting along. They both showed up about the same time as far as we can tell. In our vegetable garden we have several bird houses close together. We have a wren nesting in a house next to that of a Tree Swallow. Each species raised their young in the same two houses last year. We give the nesting birds their privacy and don't peek at them. We do hear the babies some times when we walk by the birdhouses. Terry

WVHill, I am sure you have talents. Many of us just don't recognize the ones we have. Sue's favorite color is blue and she uses a lot of it. She doesn't use just one shade of blue. She likes the true blue colors, like navy blue, sky blue, and royal blue. She is not a fan of teal blue, aqua blue or turquoise blue. Terry

I don't have many talents left Terry. Or else, I've forgotten them. What is that shade of blue used all over the gardens? I'm looking for a pretty color for a bench of mine and I think I'd love that one. Thought about red, but it just doesn't suit me. connie

Terry, I did not know that about the House Wren.! I was really surprised on that one! Thank you for the info and education!

WVHill: Connie, Sue does have her own set of talents that happen to differ from mine. You also have your personal set of talents. Our individual talents just differ from one another, Terry

Sara, I don't know what kind of bird you have. Each summer, we get a couple of Yellow-breasted Chats. They commonly sing at night. They have a variety of sounds they make, some quite strange. They are found in most states. My bird book map shows their normal northern territory stops right at Vancouver, BC. Terry

BJEE, the House Wren is one of the smallest birds but they have a big attitude. They are constantly calling and their calls are surprisingly loud. They are an aggressive bird. It is not unusual for them to enter another bird's nest and break their eggs. Hopefully, this pair is accepting the responsibility of communal living and behaving accordingly. Terry

We also have bird houses in our yard. There is a dense cedar tree right next to our back deck and a bird that "cheeps" right into the night. He sounds happy but we were wondering why he doesn't seem to sleep after dark.

I find it so amazing that two different species of birds can live so close together without conflict!

Great hearing about your birds and their homes. I'm going to try to buy me a hubby who will make birdhouses. Rick refuses to do much of anything, except watch tv and find somewhere that food is being served. He has almost completely stopped eating at home. I don't know whether to be insulted or happy about it. I think I'm mostly happy, tho.
You and Sue are both lucky; she, with her talented and hard-working husband and you, with such a talented and hard-working wife. When I grow up, I want to be just like her. And, I want my place to look just like your place looks. Fat chance! Thanks for showing off Sue's gardens and talent. connie

How wonderful that they don't mind "apartment" living. :-) This is a beautiful bird house and it is so good to hear that the birds are already enjoying it. Great job of building this cute house, Terry. It is great to hear that you have SO MANY birds currently using your bird houses. Fantastic!!! THANK YOU for sharing this cute photo. Now, to the puzzle. I see, at this point, that you are on TOP of the Leaderboard. :-)
