Greek Orthodox Easter is on the 19th April 2020

Easter is one of the biggest religious celebrations of Christianity commemorating the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the passage from death to life. Good Friday is an eminently mournful day that commemorates the Passion of Christ in all of Greece.
Even the most remote churches honor the tradition of the Epitaph filling the atmosphere with piety and devoutness.
In every Greek city, village or island, the Passion of Christ is revived through different traditions. From the early morning hours in all the Greek churches, the Epitaph, decorated with flowers, is ready to receive the body of Jesus. In most areas, the epitaph procession begins around 9pm, but in some parts of the country procession takes place at noon or even on the morning of Holy Saturday.
This year, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no open air celebrations. Churches will be shut to the public and everyone will have to stay indoors.

What a beautiful wreath. A fun & novel idea! I usually have an indoor wreath & an egg tree but I just didn't have the heart to fine them & put them out this year. I'm keeping them for when we can truly celebrate. I'm hoping & praying the world won't go back to how it was but, rather, a better place with not so much exploitation of precious resources, less pollution, less busy-ness, etc. I think people have had this time to reflect & re-evaluate, so here's hoping.

Thank you Janet and Val for commenting. These times are going to be difficult for everyone. We need to learn adaptation.

Hello Jillian. I'm glad you like the Easter rabbit door decoration. Sometimes Greek Orthodox Easter takes place together with the Catholic one and the Church of England one but not always; I think it has something to do with the cycle of the Moon. I don't exactly know how the churches decide about this.
Today we are listening at the main service of the day which is the Vesperal Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil thru TV.

Sweet puzzle thank you Marina, it is a difficult Easter all round the world, at least we can still celebrate in our own ways☺♥

How sweet is that thanks Marina, yes all our churches were closed too, but many did broadcasts on TV. hugs. ♥

What a gorgeous decoration. Thank you for sharing about the Greek Orthodox Easter so interesting. I didn’t realise it was a different date to ours. We celebrated Easter last weekend and yes it was very different, services were online and instead of being the 19 of us (our immediate family) there was the 2 of us. Really really strange. But survive we did and so my dear will you and hubby, hope there will be some happy virtual connections for you all.

You are welcome Deanna. Thank you for your wishes.

Thank you Lunie.

Hi Suzie. It is going to be a very different Easter this year. For the first time ever families will celebrate apart from their relatives and grown up children. Without Covid we would have been 12 people (5 families) celebrating together and now will be 2 : hubby and me. But I hope we will survive!

Dear Marina, I wish you a Happy Easter and I hope that you will enjoy it despite the limitations in the current situation. Your sweet bunny picture is very beautiful, thank you ❤️:))

A cutie bunny ...nice find Marina.

Thank you for sharing your Easter celebration with us, Marina. Although the open air celebrations will not take place this year, the people of Greece will find ways to celebrate in their own special ways.
