”A New Year brings new grace for new accomplishments.”

Dear Friends, Jigidiers and Guests

The Magic Carpet has flown us to a resort hotel in Cancun, Mexico. The rooms in this hotel offer amazing views of the hotel zone.

After checking in, we will gather at the reception area and then proceed to the Grand Ballroom where we will be greeted with Mexican-style hospitality, listen to good quality life music and enjoy a lovely ambience while we dine. We will be pampered with great, nutritious and healthy food which is simple yet authentic.

For the evening, there will be a Dinner and Show Combo.

Today is the 1st day of a new year - a time for many of us to embark on new beginnings and have fresh starts.

It is also a day when I host a virtual party to celebrate happy occasions - birthdays and wedding anniversaries, etc. For the month of January, we celebrate in Cancun, Mexico.

Let us raise our glass of champagne to toast to the January birthday boys and girls, and wedding anniversary couples. May all of them enjoy a wonderful new year, good health and happiness. May everything go smoothly for them throughout the year. Cheers :-)

It has been almost a year since many friends have given me moral support and prayed for John when he was hospitalised with an acute stroke in January 2020. So, John and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your prayers, healing and positive thoughts and moral support. We are pleased to say that John is recovering well. To all of you, we send our thanks and love along with positive thoughts for a Blessed New Year. Cheers :-)

The large birthday cake and wedding anniversary cake are ready to be cut and served.

And yes, there is always a spread of sumptuous food at the buffet table. Let us go over there and start to help ourselves to the delicious virtual food.

The Virtual Chef hails from Cancún, México and he is very well acquainted with the cuisine of this amazing Caribbean paradise . He has prepared some of the well known and popular Mayan and Mexican food of this vacation destination for us to enjoy. The aroma from the food is so heavenly.

Wow ! Just look at the never-ending spread of food ...

For Soups, we have :

Sopa de Lima - Lime Soup : It is a famous soup in Cancun. The Virtual Chef prepared it with Chicken, Pepper, Tomato, Cilantro, Garlic and Avocado. Local limes, which are sweeter and not as tart as other varieties of lime, give the soup an acidic flavour which makes this iconic soup tastes fresh yet punchy.

Sopa de Piedra - Stone Soup : It consists of prepared Vegetables and Seafood. Pre-heated stones are taken from the flames and placed into the pot so that the the Broth is cooked from the inside out.

Sopa de Tortilla - Corn Tortilla Soup : This is a Richly Flavored Spicy Tomato Base Soup with Chunks of Avocado, Fresh Cheese, Crispy Corn Tortilla Strips, and a Dollop of Cream.

Salads :

Salad Greens, Onions and Tomatoes, topped with Mexican Flavored Black Beans, Corn, and Grilled Chicken.

Cold Seafood Salad with Cajun Spices.

Main Dishes :

Fried Whole Fish - cooked the traditional way - The Fish is coated with Tiki Xic and a Spice Mixture and Pickled Onions. It is then wrapped in Banana Leaves and is roasted slowly over a low flame for a long period of time. This procedure makes the fish moist and the banana leaves add a subtle aroma and taste to the dish.

Enchiladas - Corn Tortillas rolled around your Choice of Meat, Cheese, Beans, Potatoes, Vegetables or in what combinations you like. These selections are then covered with a Savoury Sauce.

Panuchos Yucatecos - Consisting of Refried Beans topped with Chicken, Onion, Lettuce, Tomato Sauce, Avocado, and Cheese.

Fajitas - Beef, Chicken, Seafood or Vegetables. The selection of Condiments which accompany this item include Shredded Lettuce, Refried Beans, Diced Tomatoes, Shredded Cheese, Guacamole, Salsa, Pico de Gallo (Salsa made with Tomatoes, Onions, and Jalapenos ), and Sour Cream.

Grilled Seafood with Mexican Sauces.

Lobster and Shrimp cooked in a Curry Sauce.

Desserts :

Jericalla - A Flan-like, Creme Brulee-like Dessert. It is made with Milk, Eggs, Vanilla, Cinnamon and Sugar.

Nieve de Garrafa - Ice Cream made from Fresh Fruits which have been mashed together with Sugar, Salt and Ice. It comes in many flavours - Mamey (Mamey Apple), Pitaya (Dragon Fruit) and Flor de Jamaica (Hibiscus Flower).

Pay de Queso - Cheescake with Chocolate Flavour.

Cocada - Oven Baked Shredded Coconut and Egg.

Las Alegrías (Happiness) - Circles of Toasted Amaranth Seeds, Raisins and Nuts bonded together with Honey.

Drinks :

At the Bar Counter, we can order : Tequila, Mezcal, Paloma and Margarita.

For folks who prefer Non-Alcoholic Drinks, we can have Agua Fresca which is a blend of Fruits and Water with a Touch of Sugar and a Squeeze of Lime.

Horchata - It is a Milk Drink made from Ground Almonds, Tiger Nuts or Rice and flavoured with Cinnamon. The taste is a bit sweet. Its texture is creamy.

Agua de Jamaica - an infusion made from the Hibiscus Flower.

Hot Beverage : - Mexican Coffee served with Cinnamon.

Now, let us fill our plates with the delicious and tempting Mexican Cuisines that our Virtual Chef has prepared for all of us.

!Buen provecho! (Happy eating!)

After a yummy meal, we can take part in some of the Outdoor Activities that the Virtual Organiser has selected for Water Sports Enthusiasts. These are :

Water Sports Activities : Swimming, Windsurfing, Water Skiing, Parasailing and Snorkeling. We can go Kayaking and Paddleboarding at the Nichupte Lagoon - which is made up of 5 different lagoons. As for Scuba Diving - there are many underwater attractions in Cancun where we can see Tropical Fishes, Eels, Lobsters, etc.

We can also just enjoy the Beautiful Beaches of Cancun by taking a stroll at the shoreline or laze around with a cold drink and some snacks.

Here are a few of the Recommended Beaches in Cancun :

- Playa Chac Mool - a quiet beach for relaxing in the Caribbean Sea.

- Tulum Beach - a beautiful and stunning beach with silky smooth white sand and palm trees lining the boulevard. Its turquoise waters are very clear and the sunset is magnificent.

- The Playa Norte (North Beach) at Isla Mujeres - a beautiful, quiet beach with sparkling white sand and calm blue waters.

- Playa Maroma - a stunning, beautiful beach with white sand coastline, crystal-clear azure waters and a coral reef in the Rivera Maya.

Explore Cancun’s Hotel Zone

Cancun is divided into two areas. Downtown ( Ciudad Cancun ) — and Cancun Island, (The Hotel Zone or “Zona Hotelera”).

The Hotel Zone is the primary tourist area. It is a 15-mile strip of sand shaped like the number seven.

Many hotels are located here. This place is well known for its resorts, catamarans, wild nightlife and beaches. Restaurants and bars line Kulkukan Boulevard, which is the only road that runs from one side of the Hotel Zone to the other.

Visit Downtown Cancun (Ciudad Cancun)

Downtown Cancun has a fun community atmosphere. Here, we will get a taste of local culture. It is the main residential area for the local folks. It has delicious street food, small shops and green parks.

Some of the places worth visiting in Downtown Cancun are :

Parque Las Palapas - At this main park of the city, we will find food carts, outdoor food court, local handicrafts and souvenirs for sale.

Malecon Tajamar - A beautiful waterfront neighbourhood with natural space where we can walk along the Nichupte Lagoon on a modern boardwalk and catch amazing views of the Hotel Zone skyline. It is also a good spot to see sunrise at the Lagoon.

Outdoor Markets in Cancun, Mexico :

Visits to the outdoor vibrant markets in Cancun are interesting as there are lots of things to see and do. The food, sounds and colours are captivating.

La Caja Orgánica Bazaar - A store that sells organic products of local producers.

Manos Mágicas - A market located in the beautiful Jardín del Arte (Art Garden). Here Mexican artisans sell their crafts and products, such as clothes, green cosmetics, and handbags, etc.

Mercado 23 - This very well-known place is where the local folks buy food, grains, tortillas, groceries, candy, school supplies, party goods, crafts, pottery, medicinal plants, fresh flowers, herbs, local vegetables and fruits, etc. We can buy T-shirts, key chains, sea shells, etc here.

Mercado 28 - This picturesque market is Cancun's top market. It is a huge shopping centre full of vibrant colors. There are many souvenir stands that sell textiles, maracas, leather items, Mexican souvenirs, etc. It is recommended that we bargain at this place. There are also jewellery shops, and small restaurants.

Day Trips :

Isla Mujeres Day Trip - Sleepy fishing village, rocky coast and gorgeous bays. This is the first place to see sunrise in Mexico.

Tulum Day Trip - Best beaches in Mexico are found here. Ruins of Tulum built by the Mayans. Ancient walled city perched on the edge of the cliff with great views of the Caribbean Sea.

Las Coloradas Day Trip - These are pink lakes in a small fishing village. The lovely pink water of the lakes comes from red plankton and shrimps. The lakes are a natural reserve and home to many animals. Flamingo and bird watching is common here.

To show my appreciation for your attendance at this virtual party, I have selected a few Mexican virtual souvenirs for you all to take home. These are Mexican Tablecloth and Runner, Local Designer Beach Dress, Woven Beach Bag, Colourful Woven Fan and a Pair of Maracas.

I hope that all of you have enjoyed the party and I look forward to seeing you all again at the next virtual party which will be held on 1 February 2021.

Cheerio,
Jason :-)

Wow, Rita, snorkeling - ah, you have been to a fantastic and colourful underwater world. I think that you have definitely felt the wonder and joy of being in a place teeming with colours and life.

Yes, the Fried Fish is great. Yummy.

Malecon Tajamr - many of our friends were there, too. Some were busy taking photos, videos, or selfies. A few of them were taking the opportunity to do some stretching exercises in a lovely spot.

John and I enjoyed our visit to the Art Garden (Jardín del Arte), too. It is a very interesting place to browse around on a Sunday - so many things to see and buy and the paintings are orginals.

John bought a few paintings from a couple of young artists. I bought some minature landscape paintings.

We saw you having a good chat and discussion with one of the artists and we were glad that you came to this cultural place that is filled with so much art and tradition.

I am delighted that you love the colours of this puzzle :-)
It is not a too easy to solve puzzle, but I guess, I like that even more as I have to slow down and not rush through the whole process of solving it.

Thank you, Rita for being an active participant at this virtual party. You always know how to make it real by injecting life into it :-)

Smiles of Knowing that a Dear Friend Has Enjoyed Herself,
