Why are you reporting this puzzle?

There was a feature on the television breakfast news today about the danger of dogs suffering separation anxiety when all the humans in the household return to work and school etc. Strangely, Elsa is fine when she knows I have left the house ( I have filmed her a few times to check) but if she is awake, she HAS to be with me. My 5th rescued greyhound, she is the only one who has never accepted that she isn't allowed upstairs.... She has now trained me to accept that she is! ☺

Thanks Patti. Elsa has definitely re-written the rule book!

LOL! Love your comment about how she trained you. :) What a sweet dog!

You make me laugh Ank! I don't deny that she has done more than just eye up my bed in the past, but I think my reaction convinced her not to try that again! She spent last night on her little bed and is there again right now. ☺☺☺

puzzeljac

That's what you think now, let me talk to Elsa. ☺☺☺

goingsilver

Oh no Ank, that is most definitely NOT going to happen! ☺

puzzeljac

And that's the way it has to be. ☺
Next step, I hope you have a big bed. ☺☺☺
Hugs ♥♥♥

goingsilver

Thanks Val. She is a funny girl, but she does seem to appreciate having another bed! ☺

goingsilver

Too right Pat! Thanks. ☺

Smart dog you are Elsa .. You now have your mommy trained ..

goingsilver

Yes that is so true Kathleen. And it wouldn't surprise me if your niece is right too!

Bren, the first moment I saw Elsa I recognised a look of steely determination in her eyes which none of the previous 4 rescued hounds had. I should have taken heed.... Yes, I have allowed her to take liberties, though it has taken 3 and a half years for me to put the spare dog bed on the landing! But I must admit that during the awful isolation of lockdown I rather like having her with me. But she is the main reason I wouldn't have a second dog now; she'd teach it bad habits! And thankfully she copes fine being left alone at home.

In my family, when we humans were young, we were much more steeled against the pleading eyes and manipulative ways of our companions. The older we get, however, the more 'privileges' our companions seem to get. I believe the phenomena is genetic as it has run true now across at least four generations. My niece has the theory that the spirits of our prior companions hang around for a bit to teach the younger generation of companions all the tricks of training humans before they cross the rainbow bridge.

Oh Lorna...I bet she just looked at you and you did what she would do - roll over and surrender.
There was (I haven't seen or heard it for a few months...) that yowled all day when they weren't there. Maybe I haven't heard it because they are there - we shall see when things go back to 'normal'.
I can tell the time when I'm out on my walk - all dogs come out at 7.30! The later ones at 8am. I'm so glad I have cats :o)
