I do back up, but how do you recover something that was never saved in the first place?

One of my uni lecturers put the proposition to us that a library was not so much an information storage system as an information retrieval system. He said the information was of no use to anyone if they didn't know where it was or how to access it. Good point!

Beb.

PS: love your three little icons.

robf

Awwww... disappointing.

Bet you back up regularly now ♥♥♫☼

blueeyedblond

Well, I did send jigidi a "help"email, so we'll see what comes back.
In the meantime, I might just re-write the article from scratch.
I could already have written half the book in the time I've spent searching for it.

:O

I'm also fairly sure it wasn't under any of the pilot's puzzles.

Beb.

robf

Hold on a sec, beb... give up? You're getting so close! Either search through the comments of any Mazy puzzles in your date range (those that have comments), or ask him---?

You say you need this account. Mazy's a good communicator, even if there's a big confusion about the photos; you will get a reply from him.

Rand, that is one monstrous number after the "HD". Do you think it represents the G force at the surface? Is such a high value even possible for a rock world?!

It turns out "they" are one and the same person!
Curioser and curioser! I'm about to give up... :(

Beb.

@randlindsly
Thanks for being so tolerant of my use of your space. B.

blueeyedblond

I've checked Mazy. HE is an university professor, so I'll go looking for a different spelling for the pilot. The search continues...

B.

robf

Yes! I checked early today, and thought "that isn't her".
So I could be totally wrong; or it could've been a man all along, needing a new identity for awhile; or it could be her, trying out a new avatar...

...deciphering that kind of thing is like sorting through Covid-19 advice from a multitude of levels of government, each with a slant of its own.

But why not tag Mazy to be sure.

blueeyedblond

Re the retired Canadian professional pilot, are you thinking of Mazy? (Whose avatar is now a man!)

Beb.

blueeyedblond

Thanks to all for your responses.
Haven't found it yet,
but haven't given up on it yet, either.

@robf
Yes, if all else fails I might send jigidi an email about it.
If even THAT fails, I might just rewrite the incident!

beb, can you remember a lady Jigidier who's a professional pilot, and lives in the Okanagan valley in British Columbia?
Your comment *might* have been on one of her puzzles. But I can't remember her username.

robf

Hi beb,
Brave of you to hijack, even for just a little while.

We can't search for our past comments, can we. I miss being able to read what others wrote along with me, on some priceless threads.

No worries about tagging me, but unfortunately I have no recollection of a mainsail conversation or of a puzzle like the one you remember. Not on my puzzles or on any that I visited.
And I can't think of a fast way to find it using any Jigidi features, either... you've already tried everything I know.

If you could explain to Jigidi why it's so important for you to find your comment, maybe they would be willing spend a few hours coding & running a search to let them find it internally, and send the puzzle's link to you? Some of my friends can do that sort of thing in about 20 minutes on a mainframe. Don't know if Jigidi's office setup allows it to be done so easily, though.

Best of luck to you.

iceng

No luck, but then jigidi cut 2y off my files because I had inappropriate political toons..

ParsonWayne

I don't remember a posting like that on one of MY puzzles, Beb.

blueeyedblond

@randlindsly

... and then I spelled your name wrong! >|<

@randlinsly

My apologies in advance for hijacking one of your puzzles, but I need some help. I've spent the last TWO DAYS searching for a puzzle under which I wrote an account of being caught under a mainsail when a boat capsized when I was ten years old. You might have been in that conversation.
I've searched all the puzzles I created (in more than two years!) because I NEED A COPY OF THAT ACCOUNT. But I didn't find it.
Then it occurred to me that it was probably someone else's puzzle - possibly originally about flying, or light aircraft, or things that scared people, or sky diving, or just diving, or being in water, or... So I searched all the puzzles I had solved that were posted by other people. That also drew a blank.
So then it occurred to me that I might have commented under a puzzle that I didn't actually solve - because it had more pieces than I wanted to grapple with. So I STARTED to search back through ALL the puzzles. Well, there have been about 140 pages of puzzles put up so far THIS MONTH, so it would have taken me the rest of my life just to search back to the beginning of the year.
So then I did keyword searches under "skydiving" and "parachuting" looking for a puzzle which had a picture of a world record hook-up attempt. I'm pretty sure that's the puzzle I'm looking for, but it didn't come up in either of the keyword searches.
BUT THIS PUZZLE OF YOURS DID!

Can you remember either such a picture (probably earlier this year), or even the conversation itself? If so, and you can relocate it easily enough through your own solved puzzles, would you mind tagging me in the comments section so I can find it again? If not, do you mind if I tag a few other likely jigidiers in this comment, so they can read what I have just written to you and possibly throw some light on it for me? Thanks.

WHO ELSE might have been a party to that discussion??? A curse on my increasingly defective short-term memory. >|< Thanks to anyone who can help me relocate that article.
