Apparently I was wrong on my age for the trip to Scotland. Sailor Sam's post says that the ship was launched in 1955. Perhaps it didn't actually sail across the ocean until a few years later, or I misremembered my age. I know it was it's maiden voyage because everyone was afraid it would fall apart !!!
For years I had a kayak as you probably figured out by my comments and I did have the top of the line life jacket. It was one that actually went behind your head and turned you face up if you fell in the water. However, since I don't float very well, I just kayaked in water mostly no deeper than my thighs. I never fell out. But of course, that is a slow journey on the water. I did have a canoe but liked the kayak so much better. Smaller, lighter and much easier to steer. However not so happy on a bigger boat even though I used to drive the motor boat when the family went water skiing. My first adventure on a REALLY big ship was on our visit, my Mom and I to Scotland. We took the Saxonia over and the Corinthia (not the right spelling) but how it sounded back then. We hit a hurricane on the way back and it was the ship's maiden voyage. I was 8. My Mom wasn't scared, so neither was I but it was a very interesting experience. They had ropes in the passage ways to hold on to and they watered down the tablecloths so the plates wouldn't slide off on to the floor. Not too many people showed up for meals though. We played table tennis on the closed deck and didn't have to chase the ball when we missed it because it rolled back ! But, I wouldn't want to do that now. Sailor Sam posted a picture of the ship (with the right spelling). I will tag you guys. Evie.
As tempting as this might be, and as beautiful as it is, since I swim like a broken bottle, I will pass on this one. You all have a nice sail !! 🩵💜💙💛❤️
