The artwork in Today's Daily Jigsaw Puzzle is titled "The Grey Horse (At The Horse Fair)" and the artist is Rosa Bonheur ♥

Rosa Bonheur (1822–1899) was a French artist known for her extraordinary animal paintings and sculptures. Born into an artistic family, she defied 19th-century gender norms by wearing men's clothing to study animals in slaughterhouses and markets, earning a police permit to do so.

Her masterpiece, The Horse Fair, cemented her fame and showcased her skill in capturing dynamic movement. Bonheur gained international acclaim, with Queen Victoria among her admirers. She became one of the few women of her era to achieve artistic and financial success, allowing her to live on her terms.

Bonheur was meticulous in her anatomy study, often visiting zoos and markets and even performing dissections. Her deep understanding of animal physiology brought an unmatched realism and vitality to her work. Her estate at Château de By housed a menagerie of animals, including lions, which she cared for personally and used as models for her art. This intimate relationship with animals is evident in the lifelike quality of her work.

IT IS GREAT TO SEE SOME OF THE FEMAIL ARTIST. IT WAS MEN THAT RULED BACK THEN, AND I THINK THAT IS WHY FEMALES ARTIST WASN'T GIVEN THE CREDIT AS MEN.

But also what an interesting background - it would still make a fine picture even without the horse and people in the foreground.

Thanks for today's puzzle, I always reduce the size though to 12 pieces.

@ren13 @bowsebet58, Thank you for your comment! We love animals, and we admire strong and beautiful animals like horses! 🐎

I've been a Rosa Bonheur fan ever since my horse-crazy teenage years. My aunt gave me a large print of The Horse Fair, which I still think is the most beautiful depiction of horses ever painted. I don't know what happened to that print all those years ago. If I still had it, I'd hang it prominently today.

Brilliant artist and a fine horse for her subject.
