Why are you reporting this puzzle?

Thank you Bob for giving us a “condensed” history of Campbell’s Soups. You “stirred” my memory and presto!! … you “opened a can” of old memories.

Many moons ago I decided not to post this picture as it (along with my commentaries) had been deemed "insufferably inane", but as Flag Officer David Farragut famously said in 1864 at the Battle of Mobile Bay: "Damn the Tomatoes... full speed ahead”.... Besides there is a little know fact about Joe that no one seems to remember...

The Campbell Soup Kids first appeared in 1905, when the company was still called the Joseph Campbell Company. Starting in 1905, the Campbell Soup Kids first appeared in ads on the sides of streetcars and in magazine advertisements, first in black and white, and later in full color. The little Campbell’s Soup kids with their round faces and rosy cheeks were a phenomenon. And why do I bring up the Campbell’s Soup Kids? Back in 1905 the poster boy for Campbell’s Soup was none other than our very own (drum roll please) MusicManJoe! If you look closely, I am sure you can see the resemblance.

WAY TO GO, JOE! You’re “Still cookin’ after all these years” 

I like that my comment has reopened other people's comment after all this time ...

Seems like a good night for soup..........

Hi Bev, I wouldn't say that Lollo is my favorite actress, but some of her films were beautiful ...
I know this puzzle has been here for a long time, but also it happens to me that someone completes my old puzzles (and I'm glad ...)

Best wishes to you too and thank you ...

rswestley

Wow bev, this puzzle is old. When it was published in 2018, Gina Lollobrigida was ONLY a young 90 years old....

@bujal
'60s siren Gina Lollobrigida is still stylish and smiling at 92 ...

Nobody is doing their 90s more fabulously than Gina Lollobrigida. The eternal siren, who celebrated her 92nd …
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Milena, Didn't you just love her movies? So Beautiful a lady. Merry Christmas and Happy New year and everything good. Bev. 12-24-19

Holy cow this is from May 17, 2018

E Buon Natale a Te.

bujal

This can reminds me of an old Italian film "Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell" with Gina Lollobrigida ... a brilliant comedy (she took the pseudonym from a can of beans).

jals

Thanks John! Hope you had a good day as well.
It was a busy day today and James got here about 4. As soon as his parents drove off, we started having fun! I was really surprised how well he did with them leaving. Fed him and Hubby, Hubby had to go mow, they have a big tournament starting tomorrow, so James got a bath, brushed his teeth, read him 4 books and put him down to sleep. He cried for a little while (that's so hard for me to let him do) and eventually he fell asleep. The dog is here too.

Dear John,
Never, ever stay invisible!!!

rswestley

Judy, be careful what you wish for. Sadly, sometimes the grass on the other side of the hill is covered with manure. It’s true, in this artificially produced world created by the electronic geniuses of Jigidiland, I can be (somewhat) clever and sometimes (somewhat) witty, but in the ‘real’ world you have all the attributes I lack. You’re personable, friendly and there’s no need to poke you to get you to speak. People sincerely like you. But for me, it is a life of being piled on the reduced rack in the produce department of your favorite grocery store. It’s tiring to compete with kohlrabi everyday.You should be thankful for all your worldly gifts... and don’t be fooled by some hot shot chameleon ;-)

@jals

PS - I hope you and Steve have a wonderful Father’s Day. Eat, drink and be.... visible!

julie88

@rswestley John, U can have a whole cake !

jals

I have to say, though, John, that you have made the U sound very, very cool!!
I could use a marketing guy like you to sell my new image. I'm tired of being considered, old, overweight, and boring. You'll need to jazz me up a little.

jals

John,
I'm very honored you'd want me to co-write, but I have to decline. I am no where even close to your greatness.

CJ45

Thanks John.LOL!!!

rswestley

Clive, if you are confused, I have done my job today. And may I ad, you wear it well! :-)

CJ45

Oh John, you have left me quite confused. LOL!!!

rswestley

A big thank you to Julie, Judy, Bev and Dave! Though I had several letterman's jackets in high school, I never received such a prestigious letter. The letter U is very special... some little known facts I learned about the letter 'U' whilst skiing(?) the internet....

"Definitely the coolest vowel. Pairs up in weird ways with all the other vowels, and also with the letter Q. For a rounded letter, it can come off surprisingly cool in words like “ultra” and “umbrage.” It also pairs with “n” to reverse the meaning of most words, which is quite a power to have. This is the letter you sort of look at askance at first, thinking, “hmm…kinda dorky,” but eventually you realize it’s pretty sweet. It’s just unfortunate that the most famous example of it pairing with itself comes in the word “muumuu.”

Best U-Word: Ukulele (winner of TIM's Sing-a-Long Book, complete with a bottle of Pepto Bismal) - First runner up: Ubiquitous (2nd place winner gets a coveted "Get Out Of Jigidi Free" card)

Thanks again Julie and Judy... I will wear my letter U with pride and hope I never disappoint you or other people with names starting with J. I am truly honored!! (can I have a cupcake now?)

Judy, would you consider co-authoring my next book? I was duly impressed with your use of the word 'crackalacking'. I think with your input we can produce a book that is truly mind numbing!

@jals
@julie88
@bevpuzzler8
@djp

jals

ha ha ha couldn't resist.

julie88

@rswestley You're the UN in our balance and we love U.

julie88

Oh Judy, crackalacking ?

jals

Your skin must be nicely browned by now, John. Using crisco and being out in the AZ sun. You must be crackalacking. I would never suggest you're a chicken, but chicken skin comes to mind.
Just climb on board and go stand over to that side a little and you'll create balance even if you're not balanced yourself.

No sorry needed Miss Bev! ♥♥♥

rswestley

WHOOOOOAAA NELLIE! Balance? You think I have balance? How could I have balance when I don't even own a scale? May I suggest the Geico Lizard? or Charlie Tuna? or Nemo and Dory? And Dino is currently unemployed. They are all scalier than me (Thank goodness for Crisco)

Sorry,,,,,the Entire group.:))

jals

Yes. :-))

julie88

Right Judy, the entire group. We must keep the balance, yes ?

jals

Oh yes, I understand Julie. lol
And Bev a great foursome, but I was meaning the entire Jigidi group.

@djp
OOPS Thank you for the correction ….what was I thinking?

@jals
What foursome we would make.
John Pres. You vice pres. and Dave and I tag along. :))

julie88

@jals See what I mean Judy ? Sun dried head cheese.

jals

Can you imagine the hilarity that would ensue, Bev, if we all lived in the same neighborhood?

djp

Never worry John, "I got u back"!

rswestley

Dave, I think that may be the nicest thing anyone has said about me... thank you!

Bev? Two plaudits in two days? The lima beans must be working! Thank you!

djp

Wrong Bev, John is possessed!

@rswestley
John
I am usually a quiet person. I communicate OK, but always wished I had the command of the English like you do. I truly believe you are Blessed or Pocessed….I prefer Blessed. You always make my day LOL...Way to go!!!!!!!!!!

rswestley

I stand tall amongst the coup d'état. Don you aluminum foil hats and your protective mittens, for whilst you revel in your unbeknownst hatred of homemade suet, I will strike you down with a bolt of gazpacho (with sun dried head cheese)* whenst you are least wary and the moon is fool. (Best spoken with a John Cleese accent)

*the recipe for gazpacho with sun dried head cheese can be found on page 439 of Hismort's Book of "The Kids Love It" Recipes - subtitled "How I Learned To Love Maalox". Now available in paperback wherever 2 ply toilet tissue is sold....

CJ45

How are you doing Sir Joe hope you are much better.

jals

I'm going to have to plead the 5th on this, Joe. I'm sure you'll understand.

wjl1015

You don't think that would make me ill do ya Judy?? LOL :))

jals

Maybe that's why you're not feeling well, Joe?

wjl1015

And to think I had a pot of John's casserole when I was in NE!!! LOL :))

jals

Not to worry, I'm not that depressed yet.

julie88

Okay Judy. Whew.....you had me worried.

jals

ha ha Julie,
What do you think?
I only asked a question about it. ;-)

julie88

@jals R U really considering a casserole from John ?

jals

What else is in the casserole besides lima beans?

rswestley

No worries Judy. Whenever I feel dumb as an accumulation or deposition of small particles and the subsequent cementation of mineral or organic particles (a rock), I have a second portion of my wife's lima bean casserole...it shocks me back to reality, and everyone knows reality is a lot crazier than fantasy

jals

John,
I envy you your capacity for thinking this stuff up. I feel like I have no imaginative inclination these days. Maybe I need a vacation.

rswestley

Bev, do you think I'm dieting? Do you think I need to lose some weight? …………… tell me truthfully Bev, do you think this Jigidi makes my butt look big?

@bevpuzzler8

CJ45

Ha,Ha, John nice to see the puzzle again.

Hi John
New icon? John in skinny pants?
Are you dieting?

rswestley

Well yeah, Jeri. This soup is over a year old so it’s probably not only kinda hard and soggy, I’m guessing this soup is learning how to walk. So I would suggest you lock your doors and windows... if this soup breaks into your house, it has been known to stain carpets and ruin blouses

jeribar8

Just now saw this... Don't think I've ever eaten any rock and roll soup..?
I'm thinking it might be kinda hard and soggy..

wjl1015

I knew you were a fan of Family Su! :))

CJ45

My Pleasure T&F. LOL!!!

Trouble_and_Frog

I didn't know you were so talented John and I didn't know Joe had been famous for that long . . . a child star no less . . . ;-)
Loved your that clip of Traffic Joe . . . it was good to hear Steve Winwood's distinctive voice even though it was only as a backing singer. Did you know that the "erratic" (I'm being polite here) Rick Grech, a former member of Family was in Traffic in the early days and I believe he co-wrote this song. I know you're not a particular fan of Family but you may remember that I am . . . lol.

The RPO (aka The Philly) did something similar with Elvis John and because of the album's success brought out a second album. Not quite sure about this collaboration though . . . could be interesting . . . :-)

Thanks for the tag CJ . . . ;-)

rswestley

That's great Dave.... I couldn't have said it better :-)

djp

No John -- I believe that was the Rolling Stones!

rswestley

PS - You were close Joe. I think the Beach Boys performed for William A. Taft, Theodore Roosevelt and William McKinley....

rswestley

And speaking of the Beach Boys, I heard that on June 8th, the Beach Boys are going to release a new album with old songs. The standard hits, like Little Deuce Coupe, California Girls, Surfer Girl and others, will contain the original Beach Boys vocals (Including Dennis and Carl), but the instrumentation will be provided by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (?). I'm not sure what it will sound like, but I am looking forward to revisiting the BB's :-)

julie88

Joe! Looks like you're in the soup! HaHaHaHa!

wjl1015

I was all wrong, I guessed The Beach Boys. Can't be right all the time, right? :))

rswestley

Joe, if anyone deserves a stirring tribute, it's you. You contain absolutely no aspartame, saccharin or sucralose… you are the real deal... 100% sucrose. And to commemorate your "sweetness", I give you a group that has performed for 5 presidents; Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush. ("This is a test. For the next two minutes, this station will conduct a test of the Emergency Memory System. This is only a test.")

"Marge, these brownies taste like cancer. Run to the store and bring back a wheelbarrow full of 100% pure sugar... my acne needs some encouragement!"

@Trouble_and_Frog

wjl1015

Such a wise man you are John!! Thanks again for this!! :))

rswestley

Joe, I'm not at liberty to comment on your age.... seeing as how I am a couple years older than you. So I will just enjoy my creamed spinach and prune juice and not talk about age

wjl1015

Thank you for that 6TC!! :))

6toedcats

Lol! And, Joe, like many of us, you're still younger than dirt. :)

wjl1015

So how old does this make me John??

wjl1015

I really appreciate that. :))

@wjl1015
You are so welcome. I am praying for you.

wjl1015

And thank you Beverly for the card!! I love it! :))

This is so cool!!! Thank you John

wjl1015

In honor of this day, here's some rock & roll stew!! Thanks John!!

Well done John.....Thee Hee.

julie88

Perfect commemoration John. Happy Soup Day, Joe.
