The spire was built straight with unseasoned timber, which was then covered with 32 tons of lead tiles. The weight of the lead and the elasticity of the green wood is believed to be the reason that the spire twisted and bent.

Actually a story says that the a virgin once got married in the church and the church was so surprised that its spire turned around to look. They say that when another virgin gets married, the spire will straighten out again.

I thought it was Santa and his sleigh who bumped into it whilst travelling during a snow storm!!!
