Limping stork, Vondelpark, Amsterdam.
Why are you reporting this puzzle?
Piet, the male-stork-with-a-limp, just left the nest here. The female just started her turn brooding.
Apparently, Piet had had ample time to decide upon what he was going to do when it was his time to feed. After stretching his normal and his hurting leg for a while on the nest, he took flight. I saw him disappear behind some foliage, but there was no sign of him landing. Within seconds he came flying back, followed by a crow that seemed to try to attack him. Piet didn't flinch.
He landed on the nest again, and seemed to be swallowing something. So I think I witnessed him raiding the crows nest... Feeding without needing to use the hurting leg.
I know 'this is nature'... but I do feel I pity him a bit less...
After that he flew down, and went looking for food, limping, in the meadow at the base of the nest.
I do think he is limping a bit less.
1,5 minute video from march 2014, showing his limp. The other stork in the video is not the one he is breeding with at present.
