Książ (German: Fürstenstein) is the largest castle in Lower Silesia and the third largest historical residence in Poland after Malbork and the Royal Castle in Kraków. It is located on the northern outskirts of the town of Wałbrzych (Polish: Wałbrzych), located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, about 25 kilometers north of the Czech border. It was originally built as a castle on a steep rocky promontory at an altitude of 395 meters. It is one of the main tourist attractions of the region. The castle complex, which, in addition to the mansion itself, includes a number of other buildings, such as farm buildings, stables, defensive walls and gates, a park with a pavilion and the ruins of Stary Książ Castle, is listed on the list of immovable cultural monuments of Poland. [1]

History of the castle and chateau
According to legend, the knight Frederyk, called Funkenstein, built a castle on this site in 933 by order of Emperor Henry I the Birdcatcher. [source?] The original fortifications were destroyed by the Czech King Přemysl Otakar II in 1263.
