Why are you reporting this puzzle?

By more than a fence! World Heritage listed Port Arthur Historic Site is the best preserved convict site in Australia, and among the most significant convict era sites worldwide. The ruin in my photo is the penitentiary built by the convicts themselves. March 2020

Just so pleased that you are home safely and my friend Midge too Hugs☺♥

JillianB

No that is what I would have told you Val, as they had put us on it but we managed to get it back a day.

valt46

Well I am a day out, Midge is flying home tonight lol☺♥

valt46

Jill safe travels our gardening club president will be on your flight tonight, her name is Midge, she is tiny with red blue short hair and glasses flying back with her husband having to cut her holiday short too. Hope your trip is safe and you arrive home healthy Hugs

JillianB

Lunie delighted to see you back, how lovely. Very glad your timing worked out so well. Take care.

Dilubreuer

So sorry you got caught in there Jill...good we were a day before all flights were cancelled and were able to get back to Manila. Be safe my friend.

jan42ful

What a fuss Jill, I'll think of you flying home tonight! Hugs. ♥♥♥

JillianB

Deanna thanks for your kind thoughts, our plane leaves for NZ in just over four hours.

JillianB

Janet said goodbye to Tassie this morning and now waiting a few hours at Sydney airport before flying home to NZ tonight after an “interesting” few days, with flights changed, a hotel that we had booked and paid for months ago turning us away because we had only been in Australia 13 days! Etc, etc, will be happy to get home.

JillianB

Yes Marina though it’s sad to say that the prisoners that died were buried in unmarked graves.

JillianB

Thanks Marilyn glad you liked the hop-able (is that a word?) fence.

warbler

Yikes!

Deanna

Jill, I think of you at this time and I also hope you are safe and on your way home ♥:))

jan42ful

I hope you are safely home now Jill. hugs ♥

MarinaNephele

Wow! I've read the history of this place first. It's good that it was preserved, after all these unlucky souls built the whole area themselves. Marina.

mariolyn

Any convict could easily hop that FENCE. Thanks, and to Isaly as well.

JillianB

Dreadful for sure Dave, and there was another smaller prison where they used different discipline methods, the majority of inmates in that one went insane.

warbler

But...HOw did it feel to be on "the inside", Jill?☺

valt46

So pleased you have it sorted, safe travels my friend Hugs

Jaklien

'Home sweet home', but traveling is usually fun too.
Now nothing is normal anymore, soon everything will be okay again ♥

JillianB

Fingerbreaker you have put it so well

JillianB

Glad you enjoyed it Iris

JillianB

Thank you Cyndi, really appreciate your kind words. Hugs

JillianB

Deanna your comment is so true. Thank you also for your well wishes re getting home. It took about three hours to sort it with our poor coverage where we staying, the air line sites crashing, over hour long phone line holds only for those to fail etc etc, But all sorted we travel from Hobart to Sydney Wednesday and Sydney to Christchurch Thursday. Home is the best place to be Hugs

JillianB

Thank you dear Val

Fingerbreaker

Many years ago I visited Old Melbourne Jail. Such a depressing place: 'Abandon all hope all ye who enter here' sums up this black place.

irisriver

Great choice! grins!☺

Isaly

Hope you will be able to get all your flights arranged soon and you have a safe journey home without any problems. Hugs

Deanna

Jill, thank you for your interesting photo with a piece of history though it is very sad. But that was and is life.
I am sorry that you have to interrupt your holiday but in the current situation it is the most safe in our homes. I hope your journey home will be safe, I think of you and I wish you good luck ♥:))

valt46

Jill hope all goes well for you both and flights can be arranged promptly all the best Hugs☺♥

JillianB

Val we are now in the process of trying to change flights to get home earlier :-( We will finish off our time as planned in Tassie but now trying to get through to change our flight home the following day from Sydney. With having to self isolate regardless of if any symptoms or not for a fortnight means need to get home earlier because of my upcoming surgery.

valt46

Fascinating place for you both to visit, hope your travel plans are not to disrupted, not sounding good on our news now take care ☺♥

JillianB

Janet it has a terrible grim history but the place itself is lovely! Found it gave us a whole lot more understanding of Aus early history though. The 1996 massacre was terrible too. Thanks Janet hugs

JillianB

Jaklien glad you found it interesting, I will be sharing more of our photos once we home again. We still in Tasmania and head back to mainland Australia (Sydney) on Wednesday where we are meant to have four days before flying over to Norfolk Island but it’s a bit wait and see at the moment, taking it day by day. Thank you

JillianB

Fingerbreaker yes a very harsh prison system, run by the British military as England sent thousands of its convicts out to Australia.

JillianB

Thanks for your comment Cyndi we having a great time exploring Tasmania.

jan42ful

Thanks Jill, my mum went there many years ago and said it was a very grim place, with a very sad history. It does have a terrible history, a very cruel part of our history and then the shooting that caused all the guns to be bought back in Australia. Country folks kept their guns though.
Hugs ♥♥♥

Thanks to your beautiful photo, I looked up the site and learned something again. Thank you for that my dear Jill.

Jill, are you still in Tasmania or in Australia? I think the latter.

Isaly

@mariolyn here is an interesting fence for you.....Cyndi

Fingerbreaker

Interesting Wiki article.
Very harsh prison system.

the locals started to pull it down after it closed in 1877.

Isaly

Great photo and interesting information about it. I'm with Fingerbreaker wondering why it became a ruin. Hope you have a wonderful week.

JillianB

Thanks Brian and trust your weekend is a spring type one :-)

JillianB

Thanks for your comments Highlander

JillianB

Fingerbreaker there are many buildings on this beautiful site, including a separate prison all of which have been preserved. Found it a very interesting place to visit.

Finger breaker - A rough account is in the paragraph marked 'Tourism Development'

Brian666

Interesting Jillian, have a great weekend........B

Fingerbreaker

I wonder why it became a ruin?
It would have made a good hotel.
