The town of Chickasha, about 40 miles south of Oklahoma City, has a new attraction for the holiday season this year: a 40 foot tall replica of the (in)famous leg lamp from the movie, "A Christmas Story" Not only does it shine brightly in the cold, clear nighttime skies of the southern plains, but... it changes colors! It morphs from the green and red seen above into a green and red, or solid red or solid green... or flickers!

Haha! There's a town in New York named after the spaniard Simon Bolivar, but it's pronounced Bah-li-ver, and another spelled Chili but pronounced cheye-leye. Heck my own town where I live is Louisville, but it's pronounced Lewisville. Fun stuff.

@patsquire -- love the idea of the T-shirt -- LOL! And your OK college roommate taught you well :-) Other 'fun' pronunciations in this state are the far NE town of Miami is pronounced 'My-ah-mah' -- a 'new' meteorologist on an OKC TV station recently gave it the FL pronunciation and got you-know-what for it... ha, ha! And 'Durant' = 'Doo-rant'.

It must be Italian!

I got my daughter a t-shirt of this and she wears it all the time.

In 1965 I had a college friend from the then much smaller town of Chickasha, Oklahoma. He taught me to pronounce it Chickashay.

LOL! No serenade, Suzy! That would have been perfect ;-)

Were you serenaded at the restaurant, Carolee? ♫♪ Fa ra ra ra ra.......♫♪

Thanks for stopping by, Suzy, Iris and Landshark. It was hilarious, especially with the changing colored lights. To complete the scenario, we went to a Chinese restaurant to have dinner. No (smiling) Peking duck, though!

I wonder if it is F-R-A-G-I-L-E' ;-)
