It's good to hear you have colored pencils: me, too (about 1,000 pencils). If you have some Inktense, give them a try. I've used them, quite sparingly, in Basford's Secret Garden and they are stunning. My next exploration will probably be water-soluble colored pencils.

I just checked Amazon.com and both books are out of stock for now. I will have to order the book, so it will take awhile. I like the Secret Garden, so I'll probably order that one. I already have a ton of colored pencils, so I'm set.

This is a fast-growing genre of books, tampagirl. Choose carefully. I bought both of Johanna Basford's books. They're not inexpensive, but they are of really good quality. Secret Garden was published in 2013 and had been reprinted 15 times by June of this year. I counted over 80 puzzles in it. Enchanted Forest was published in 2015 and has 3 reprints already. For both, the paper is excellent; I tried colored pencil first and decided I didn't need to go farther: the result is first class.
If you're not familiar with colored pencils, select your book and take it to your local art store and get a set of 12 or 24 good-quality pencils and some advice from staff on using them. Have fun!

Thanks for the info jyl FYI I didn't color this, it's off the internet, but I do plan on getting a color book!

Thanks for the reply, tampagirl. Zentangle is a little more than just doodling. It's also a trademark; there are a few rules on creating tangles, and they make it a little more structured and, IMHO, more fun and creative. There are also certified instructors around the world.

You can order Adult Zentangle color books or the instruction books on Amazon. All I know is that we always just called it "doodling". Guess someone resurrected the idea by giving it a new name!

Hi carol :)

jyl

They have a website at Zentangle.com, oddio. It's difficult to explain, but it's a form of doodling that anyone with a pen (or pencil) and a piece of paper can learn easily. Try the website and if you still have questions, take a look in your local bookstore; they have produced a series of about a dozen soft-covered books with instructions, etc. My favorite store stocks them in the art section.

What a great idea for a challenging puzzle! Took me forever (a couple of pauses when the phone rang) but it was fun.

That term Zentangle is new to me... had to look it up. Still not sure... is it a brand name?

jyl

You're using very interesting colors (in combinations I wouldn't have thought of). Are they markers or watercolors or ... ?
