Haha, no one but aussies will understand you, ekema2!! Just step back two steps when you call someone a Drongo, especially if they know the meaning of the word -:))))

Thank you for the explanations of the terms. I think I'll use them and see what happens. have a great day. Elinore

'Spit the Dummy' is used to describe an outburst of anger or tantrum (Dummy or pacifier - a rubber teat used by babies).

Used in a sentence: He'll spit the dummy once he knows there's a dent in his car!

chookies

We're a happy, carefree lot, akema2, we don't take life too seriously and we love to live life to the fullest!
To answer your question about the drongo: It's an Australian slang word for a no-hoper or a fool and derives from a racehorse of that name in the 1920's that never won a race out of 37 starts.

In a sentence you'd say "You've really mucked that up, ya drongo!" and then laugh it off!!

Thanks for your interest -:))

I know a few of those phrases because we use them too, but most of them went right over my head. You know, I've never met an Australian that I didn't like - your sense of humor is wonderful. I've spent many fun times with you guys while living overseas. I have to know what DRONGO means. I can't liken it to anything, and Spit the Dummy. Anyhow, thanks for sharing this fun puzzle. Elinore

Happy Anniversary Mate! You have delighted us greatly with your wonderful contributions! You and Bob are my favorite contributors to this wonderful site!

chookies

Thanks Robbos, I can remember when we first started on jigidi, it doesn't seem like 6 years ago though - where did that time go, hey??

Robbos

Happy Anniversary, many years of fun being had on this wonderful site, thank you☺☺

chookies

We had fun that day with our comments, suzy, and half your luck if you understood any of what we were going on about!! We really don't go around talking like that but it was funny at the time.
It takes a while to learn the aussie lingo so I'll send you a book titled 'Aussie lingo for beginners' - a great bedtime book - together with a jar of vegemite - just to get you familiar with what you'll be faced with!!! -:))))

pumpkinhead

I shall need some tutoring. Will you provide it for me when I arrive? :)

nonnalouisa

Well, now I just have to visit Australia to learn what all you blokes and sheilas are talking about! Thank you, Louisa from Daytona Beach

chookies

Aww, chris, I'm laughing SO much here!! You've got it DOWN PAT, girl!! You were born in the wrong country!! You'd make a beautiful true blue aussie for sure, my dear dear friend -:)) ♥♥♥

chriswestberry

G'Day Cobber!
I'm no Drongo and I'm not from the Back of Bourke. I may not be within cooee and I'm definitely NOT as fit as a Mallee Bull, but I'm a fair Dinkum Mate to all you sheilas and blokes alike. I could Spit the dummy on a sticky beak and offer a Knuckle sandwich to anyone who bothers one of my cobbers. If I'm ever lucky enough to see you it'll be my shout for sure! Hoo Roo ♥♥♥

chookies

No dramas, Ellen, nothing foreign about us, we just like to be different! :o)

PutterDutt

I do know a few of these, probably from watching "Crocodile Dundee" but several have me stuck! Thanks for sharing the foreign language, chookies! :o)

chookies

Put a snag on the barbie today, jpowell, and a Happy Australia Day to you too -:)

Being true blue Aussie my favourite is “she’ll be right”. Always puts an optimistic spin on things. Happy Australia Day to all.

chookies

You'll come back as full as a goog, Robbos!

Robbos

The 'Big Breekie' fires up in a arf☺☺

foxymoron

Strike me pink but this is a lot of fun :-)

chookies

It's about time you hit the frog and toad, Robbos!!

Surreal_Heidi

At least it's easier to follow than Cockney Rhyming Slang.

foxymoron

Falling about laughing here! And thinking how dear Francine, and a few others no doubt, will be wondering if the world has turned upside down in a linguistic sense :-)))

Robbos

Come on chookies, fair suck of the sav!!

chookies

Better than a slap in the face with a wet fish, hey Robbos??

chookies

Go ahead, Chrissie!! Some galah may answer you back!!!

foxymoron

Carrying on like a pork chop has to be better than coming the raw prawn, mate :-)

foxymoron

Thanks, chookies.... now I feel like running out in the backyard and shouting "Cooo-ee"!

chookies

Don't carry on like a pork chop, Robbos!!
Happy Australia Day ☺☺

Robbos

There could be a few missing from the list, chookies.
Happy Australia Day☺☺

The sayings aren't that hard to work out, Francine!! i.e (You have to be VERY fit to be as fit as a Mallee Bull)
