The sign is alternately referred to as "Maine’s Famous Signpost," "the World Traveler Signpost" and "the World Places Sign," but none of those names are entirely accurate. It may indeed be Maine’s most famous signpost, but that’s not saying much. And it does point you in the direction of several world places—just not the places you’re thinking of. Because China, Peru and Norway—along with Denmark and Sweden—are the names of Maine towns.

It's more inland, but not really that far north. It is north of where I live, in the greater Portland area, but there are many miles more heading further north from there. Yes, Maine is a beautiful state - but it's pretty large and northern Maine goes all the way up to the Canadian border. It wasn't until my husband bought a motorcycle in 2008 that I really got to see the remote beauty of this state. I get to ride on the back of the motorcycle and take in all the gorgeous scenery while he does the driving! Most visitors to Maine see only the coast, but there's also lots to see further inland (west of Route One, that is)!

Unfortunately, no. This sign is in northern Maine. we were in southern Maine.

Did you happen to see this sign while you were in Maine, Glenn?

glennlowney

No. I live in Massachusetts the Rhode Island line. My brother and I spent Easter in Maine for lobster. Maine is a beautiful state.

You're welcome! Do you live someplace in Maine as well?
