Hi, Phyllis The girls' mother is doing well and her new kidney is functioning well. I wasn't feeling very well for a couple of days, so my granddaughter has been taking them back and forth to the hospital. Today I'm much better and since it was nothing that I could share with anyone, I'll take them down today. We're in the middle of a rather heavy snowfall and my granddaughter doesn't much like drivng in this weather. If we get all they snow they are calling for, we may have a snow day again tomorrow.

Despite the reason for the occasion, it sounds as if it was an enjoyable day with most of your family there. Hope you are well and keeping warm. Take care. : )

You are going to have your hands full Aishahm. I do hope the girls mother is doing well. It sounds like you have a very interesting family background, maybe one day you will get to finding out more. The Maori people have an interesting way of doing their Whakapapa [family tree] it's all oral, until some years ago, and now they are writing it down. Len's nephew's wife is Cree/ Iroquois, both her parents are First Nation people, I don't know how they keep their family history.

We had my parents interment yesterday at the R.S.A. section of the Newstead Cemetery, it was awesome, all but two of our children were there, grandchildren everywhere, a family friends. Mum and dad would have enjoyed themselves I'm sure:-) We went to a local park, the Hamilton Gardens for coffee etc, the chn ran everywhere and had a super time. Dad died in 2002 and mum 2009, it was time we interred them, it's just been hard with family overseas, so we, David and I decided we were just going to 'do it'.

Time for me to 'hit the sack'. Take care and stay well, you too Kate:-)

I think if I put enough time and effort into it, I could probably learn more about my mother's side. My daddy's side is another story. Both of his parents were Native American Indian and once you get so far back, there just aren't any records. Maybe one day I'll find the time. For being partly retired, I seem to be working an awful lot lately despite an entire week of snow days. Beginning next week it will be even busier. I have two sophomore sisters at school who were prepared to withdraw from school. Their mother is having a kidney transplant in the morning and their stepfather is out of the country and won't be able to make it back right away. They were going to withdraw so they could be with their mother while she recovers for the next 6 weeks. Instead we have worked out a plan so they can do their schooling at home. Our school doesn't have a private tutor, so I volunteered. They will do most of their work on their own. I will do online lessons with them 3 days a week and go to their home for 4 hours each week. It's only temporary, but still quite a bit of work. But I just couldn't let them drop out of school. It's always something.

How interesting Aisham, we have this in common then, as my ggggg x great grandfather was a German Jew, he came from Frankfurt am Main and went with his brother Moishe to Wales, in 1750. Yes! the Jewish people were persecuted badly, and not just in Germany and not only for the years from 1700s. I have just cooked my very first 'kosher' meal, it was super 'Caramelised Onion Kugel' I shall make it often, for all that it took ages to do the onions:-)

I used to go to a Baptist Sunday School in Wales, and was baptised in a Baptist church and married at the same church here in NZ. Len's roots are solidly in Baptist things although we attend a Pentecostal Church [Elim]

There are ways to find these things out Aishahm, it is difficult and sometimes expensive too. But there are sites online which give a free service and advise. We have both our trees back to the 1500s in some lines. I think Len's goes back a tad further than mine however. I love to encourage people to find out about their families, as once the information is gone, IT'S GONE! start by talking to the family you have, write everything down and date it, and write in a book, preferably a hard backed one, pieces of paper can be easily lost! - Phyllis

Isn't it? My maternal grandfather came to the US from Germany many moons ago. He never really talked about it so I am not sure what city he came from. I wonder if it looked anything like this. I have reason to believe that his family was Jewish, though my grandfather was a Baptist minister and railroader. Of course, in the times he was living, the Jewish people were being persecuted and if you could keep it secret you did. Where we lived it was mostly all Baptists so I guess it's possible his family just converted. I can't be sure, but my family research gives me good reason to believe as I do. I'll never know though since anyone who would know the truth has long passed.

It's so quaint Aishahm, a bit like something from a Grimm's fairy story:-)
