Roseheather, it's too technical for us, we're simple puzzlers, and most of us would call it a dandelion. We had fun with the proper name of it though, wouldn't you say? No worries, and thanks for stopping by. And Morris, you just keep on being you, I'm surprised you didn't blame Borris somehow!

I had looked for this in the past, when a similar picture had been posted. I know dandelions all too well, not really fond of them, and this flower seed-head was not like a dandelion.
Actually this isn't a dandelion, but a flower that puts forth a similar structure after the blossom has faded. A dandelion has a very tight structure and this one is more open, lots of space in the seed structure. It is a salsify (tragopogon porrifolius) which has gone to seed.
