He seems to be more impressed with his company than she is.

Those were the days that you got dressed up for a date - unless it was a very casual sporting event. My boyfriend would wear a jacket and tie if we were going to the movies or a nice restaurant! And he had to come into the house and say hello to the parents before we set out, then walk me to the door at the end of the evening. There was a certain spot where we could stand/sit on the porch where my parents couldn't see us.

I suspect the same may be true for this couple.
