"fact is stranger than fiction"

Mookie

Thank you Rebecca. I looked this up. It was published in 1954. Helen Reed lived to be 97, having died in 2013. The book and their lives afterwards sounds most interesting.

This reminded me of one of the first adult books I read (many years ago), because of a title that intrigued me - The Family Nobody Wanted - when I began to realize that true stories could be even more interesting than fiction. It's about a couple who adopt 12 children, of all races, back when that just wasn't done... and of course, how society reacted.
