Which isn't all that far from Gettysburg, if I'm remembering right. Gettysburg was thriving in the 60's. We moved in the latter part of '69. Was still pretty active community. Now it's gotten so small, and not many businesses there. It's sad to go back.

This reminds me of when I lived in South Dakota in the early '60's. There were many abandoned farm houses. I always hoped that the owners sold their farms and moved on and lived well. Not sure if that's what happened, though.

Yes, I can see it having to be someone who had money and social standing.
My son gave me a book of abandoned houses in Nebraska, photos but they also give as much information as they were able to find on them. It's a real cool book.
