Nessie!!! What a surprise to come around the corner from the rose gardens to see Nessie arising out of a pool. This and tomorrow's post are my top favorite for this year at Brookside.

Nessie at Brookside Gardens - truly a magical occasion! Thanks, Ardy, for sharing your enthusiasm with us, through your photo. (βœ¬β€Ώβœ¬)

Bubble

Faye the temp is going from -8 to plus 8 in next couple of days - go figure πŸ™„β—β—

gemstone

@Bubble I tried sticking the (chemical) toe warmers around the sides of the feeder this afternoon and it seems to work better at keeping the slush from forming...

ringleader2

You're welcome, Bubble. I liked this display better than any of the others.

ringleader2

You're welcome, Lunie. I read this earlier and got distracted before replying. Hope Yahra feels better soon and can enjoy today's post of Nessie and baby.

Bubble

I've never seen Nessie look so pretty - fairy lights really suit him.
Thank you Ardy for this cute one.

Thanks Faye for the info. the little perishers are doing ok as usual.

Dilubreuer

Now Yahra went to bed crying, she has stomach pain... will let her see your today's post tomorrow. She would love this for sure... Thanks Ardy.

@Bubble @Juba1010 I just googled this...so if you're a little handy...or know someone who is...However, for heat, I would probably stockpile a few incandescent bulbs...

AB, of course we know about Nessie. 😊 You're welcome.

Abjab

Well well well, Nessie indeed . I didn't realise that you had even heard of Nessie in America, such fame indeed
Thanks Ardy and Huggles

@Bubble Ours are the "saucer-shaped" feeders with the ring-around perch, Bubble. We have a heater for our big feeder...which uses an incandescent night light to keep the liquid above freezing. We leave it on 24/7 with these temperatures. However, they didn't carry heaters for the little ones and I was switching them every 45 minutes in the Big Freeze a few years ago. The toe warmers are adhesive on one side...I sit the feeder in the middle and fold it up all the way around the bowl. I then sit it on top of the second adhesive side and once again wrap up the excess around the bowl.
There wasn't a lot of noise with the ten of them...but it was like The Battle of Britain! We normally have five that use our feeder so I was amazed to count ten! They must be getting desperate for food. A number of people have feeders around here but some work and I don't think can switch feeders when necessary.

ringleader2

You're welcome, Bubble. And a happy winter to all the hummers you folks feed. 😊

@Juba1010
@gemstone

OK thanks Juba and Faye ............ when you said toe warmers I thought you meant tiny knitted ones. I see you mean the chemically activated warmers. That sounds like a good idea but maybe not for our saucer shaped dishes which are not long tubes.

I will look them up ............... 9 of the little beggars on your balcony, I can only imagine the racket !!!

Thanks Ardy - a Happy Xmas to you all

Juba1010

And Merry Christmas to you too, Faye. πŸŽ„β„οΈ

Juba1010

Thanks Fay. I have some I bought at Costco too. Bubble was actually worried about her hummingbird feeder up in Vancouver Island. I’ll tag her here to read your comments.

@Juba1010 You're very welcome, Juba. We bought a box of 30 at Costco. There are two in each pack. However, as soon as you open the package, both pads warm up...so I stick one onto the feeder first...to mould it, and then I stick the 2nd one to that. Although they last up to 5 hours enclosed in your shoe, they only last half that time exposed...but it's better than having to warm up a cold feeder ever 45-60 minutes...and I don't worry so much! Merry Christmas! Faye

ringleader

Thanks, Jill. I like tomorrow's even better!!

Juba1010

I’m going to pass that idea on. Thanks Fay

pumpkinhead

10 hummers, Faye! THAT is impressive. What good news that the toe warmers seem to be working. A genius idea you had. :)))
@gemstone

JillianB

That’s fantastic! What a wonderful β€˜surprise’. Made a fun puzzle as well Ardy. Thank you

ringleader

Yea for Suzy and Jim. So glad the hummers could find unfrozen food. Good that the toe-warmers are helping.

ringleader

Thanks, Suzy. I really enjoyed this one. Hugs!

ringleader

Be sure to check tomorrow, Faye. Thank you. 😊😊😊

ringleader

You're welcome, Shirley, and thank you.

BTW We had TEN hummingbirds on our balcony this morning! NINE were all trying to drink at the little three-holed feeder when the larger feeder with four stations was also available. Meanwhile, The Bully of the Balcony was trying to chase the other nine away! It was -9ΒΊC at 6:30 this morning. It's -7 at 11:30...and the toe-warmers I stuck to the bottom of the little feeder are helping to delay the slush from forming so quickly. YAY!

pumpkinhead

New delights around each curve in the road!! What a treat for all of those taking in the light show. Hugs, Ardy!

Juba1010

It’s much easier to find mythical creatures here on jigidi.
TFS Ardy :-)

Dilubreuer

Yahra is with me solving this puzzle...she shouted, "that's a caterpillar".
Thanks Ardy for showing Nessie, i want to go to Scotland, but it seemed like we can't because of the cold weather... good i saw Nessie here on Jigidi.

ringleader

It would make a good snail. Thanks, racoonstar.

I am disappointed to see it looking so dark now. It was much brighter when I got it ready for posting.

racoonstar

My first thought was if it was a Christmas snail. :D
