Runway Numbers are based on the compass with 360 representing north, 90 representing east, 180 representing south, and 270 representing west. Runways are numbered between 01 and 36. For runway headings, the last number is dropped and each individual number is pronounced.

Haven't been to SFO but Didi told me it is the nicest part of the USA he had ever seen.

Dilubreuer

The pilot could have mastered his craft racoonstar... Or you are a lucky man.

Dilubreuer

You were lucky Jacki, I had no experience of one like that too...

bluebird42

I've landed and taken off from there several times and never knew that. Thanks, racoonstar.

The end of the San Francisco, California, USA airport (SFO) is actually built on landfill that used to a section of the bay. I remember coming in to land in San Francisco and descending through heavy clouds towards the airport. At what seemed like the last possible moment we broke out of the clouds, and then landed.

Same thing happened in Boston once, Lunie. Not long after that I had to fly in to Boston airport on a very foggy day. I was a little nervous. But that time the pilot did hit the runway and not the water!

Dilubreuer

THanks Iris!

Dilubreuer

A bit dangerous Jacki, there was even a time when an aircraft (friend was in that flight) while touching down overshoot and landed in the sea (seen at the tip of this runway). Fortunately, no one was hurt. welcome.

Nice choice! grins!☺

bluebird42

great shot, Lunie. Boston airport is a little like this with the ocean so near to the runway. Thanks.
