In Today's Daily Jigsaw Puzzle, we visit the old town of Bruges or Brugge.

Bruges is a well-preserved medieval city in Belgium. Its rich history dates back to the 9th century when it was established as a fortified settlement. Bruges rose to prominence between the 12th and 15th centuries, becoming one of Europe's most important commercial centers due to its thriving wool and cloth trade.

This prosperity is still visible today in Gothic architecture and well-preserved medieval buildings.

The canals of Bruges dug in the 12th century, were vital for connecting the city to the North Sea via the Zwin estuary, enabling Bruges to flourish as a trade hub. These canals were crucial for transporting goods and played a significant role in the city's golden age.

Over time, the siltation of the Zwin led to economic decline, which inadvertently preserved Bruges' medieval character as it escaped modernization during subsequent centuries.

Today, Bruges has approximately 118,000 residents, with around 20,000 living in the historic center. The population adds a living dynamic to the city's rich heritage. At the same time, the canals, winding through cobblestone streets and ancient buildings, offer a lovely glimpse into the past, like in today's puzzle choice ♥

@Haze1952 @PuzzlFool Thank you so much for solving!! 🤗

A beautiful toast to Bruges. Because it's so old and mediieval, I think of Bruges as being brown stone buildings with not much other color. So thanks for this lovely view.

Haze1952

Wonderful...thanks.

THE CANALS, THE WINDING COBBLESTONE STREETS WOULD MAKE YOU GO BACK IN TIME. SO LOVELY TO SEE AND ENJOY.
