Why are you reporting this puzzle?

This female was in my front yard as I started on a walk to a pond. This one was considerate enough to get in a little bit of sunshine and stand still just barely long enough for a good image.

@HAZEL_9 Thanks, me too... I see them fairly often, but they usually hop around too fast and stick to shadows in the trees.

@JohnCz My joke is "This is a red-bellied woodpecker, easily identified by its red head." (Really back of the neck.. but I can't tell you why it has that name.)

I have seen about 3 or 4 dozen red bellied woodpeckers. But never one with a red belly. Not even in Petersons guide. WHY??? Yours has a light grey belly. All of mine, in northern Indiana were light tan.

Love this shot, the bird is so beautiful. I love woodpeckers.
