Ringvassøy is an island north of the city of Tromsø in northern Norway. Its main settlement, Hansnes, has a population of about 500. It is also home to both Norway's largest lake situated on an island (Skogsfjordvatnet, 13 sq km) and Norway's shortest salmon river (about 300 m long). Situated at about 70 degrees North, the island has midnight sun from mid-May to late July.

@virginia1954 The midnight sun looks exactly like your everyday normal sun. The difference is that it doesn't rise and set, but circles around the horizon. It is highest in the sky at noonish, when it is in the south, and lowest at midnight, in the north. In some Scandinavian languages we say "sunwise" instead of "clockwise".

@Copperpenny , I live in the USA. I did not know what a fjord was. So I looked it up on Google. I saw many beautiful photos of tall mountains with water. I just do not know anything about Norway. It must be beautiful with the midnight sun. Is it like day time? Can you see the sun brightly? The only place I have traveled to was the great Bahamas. My husband and I took a cruise from Florida to the Bahamas for Our 35th wedding anniversary. This year in April will be 40 years married. My husband Lou is My best friend. He is a sweet, kind man.

Thanks @virginia1954 The water that's visible in this image is actually salt water - one of Norway's many fjords.
