Monarchy keeps idiotic presidents away we do not need them.

Jumble

I do think the Royal Family brings a lot to the economy to the UK, so it should stay, but it needs to be slimmed down a lot. I will raise a glass to my Queen of Hearts. I really don't want a President especially someone like the USA previous President (no names mentioned).

WillEckerslike

The archbishop of Canterbury will ask "All that so desire" I am English, I shall be pledging my allegiance.

bevpuzzler8

While British subjects watch the coronation on screens at home, in parks and at pubs across the country they will be asked to join together and repeat the following words: "I swear that I will pay true allegiance to Your Majesty, and to your heirs and successors according to law. So help me God."

Campaign group Republic branded the idea "an offensive and tone deaf gesture that holds the people in contempt," noting that the 'heirs and successors' include the king's controversial brother, Prince Andrew.

A recent poll conducted by the National Centre for Social Research shows that British support for the monarchy is at an all time low, with 45 percent of respondents saying either it should be abolished, was not very important, or not at all important.

there is more to read but to long.....Controversy in the U.K . as in the USA

Jumble

Now you come to say it, I heard that too a few days ago. Well he's certainly not going to get mine. I would if it was Prince William.

CJ45

We need to get rid of our house of lords .

Surreal_Heidi

I've heard that King Charles has asked the general populace to give him loyalty oaths. It sounds VERY strange to me.

Jumble

I have only known of the loyalty oath being used at the House of Commons and the House of Lords they are required to take an oath of allegiance to the Crown before they first take their seats in Parliament, and after a general election.

Surreal_Heidi

So it should be a LOT easier in a few years for William's coronation. People will still remember what to do.
And hopefully William will have more sense than to ask for loyalty oaths.

Rehearsal started at night on the 18th April onwards, so many people involved. This is the dress rehearsal Bev.

bevpuzzler8

And this is just rehearsal... Thank you for this picture. I hope I see the real thing
coming on the tele. 5=4=23

I will. And that it is.

Jumble

That is really early, but I hope you enjoy it Jolene.

Thanks Irene. That helps.

I have a PBS UK channel that will be airing live from 2:30- 10am my time So I might be able to watch some of it.

Jumble

It's a very slow procession, so you can watch it in between races Heidi.

Surreal_Heidi

Why are they doing this on Kentucky Derby Day? The late Queen would never have missed the Kentucky Derby!

It think there was something that starts here at 2:30am I might not be up at that time.

London is five hours ahead of DC. That would be 1am here.

Jumble

@Ianto
Earlier than that Jolene.
People have been told, not to arrive before 6am.
9.45am The Sovereign's Escort of the Household Cavalry will assemble for the royal procession. 10.20am The King and Queen will set off from Buckingham Palace to begin the royal procession to Westminster Abbey in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach.

That is 6am US EST.

Jumble

I hope so Marie, history in the making. I assume you will be watching it with Dan. I sure you will enjoy it.

Jumble

@WillEckerslike
Enjoy your walk on the Fells, but take is steady Mike, the King is crowned at 11am but you don't want to miss the Pomp and Pageantry. Izzy

WillEckerslike

@Jumble,Saturday is my normal day to be out walking on the Fells as I live in Cumbria but we will make it a shorter walk and get back early, to watch the historical occasion on the telly, Mike.

Eulalie

It will be a wonderful coronation day ! :-)

Jumble

Thank you for your comment @WillEckerslike, so pleased you enjoyed it. (I like your emojis) I don't know if you are going to London, or watching it on TV like me. I hope you have fun on the day. Take care. πŸ’‚πŸ’‚πŸ’‚

starlord

Can you keep me a place on the Mall? :-)
I'm sure if you go there now with your tent, there'll be freedom of choice for the number one seats

Jumble

People are already camping out along the Mall, the trouble is, they forecast rain on Saturday, so I hope your fellow Belgians have brought their umbrellas.

starlord

This very same image was in the Belgian newspaper today...
Well, in the one I read anyway :-)
Lots of Belgians are taking the Eurostar for a day

Jumble
